Saturday, September 30, 2006--I don't remember much about today... There was lots of wasting time by watching TV. (TV is the single biggest time waster in the world.) I remember going to the mall and eating. I remember watching the Battlestar Galactica webisodes.

On this day:
In 2002:
Oh, I also upgraded to IE7 today. It be awesome!

Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 4) Total: 10

Good Night!
Friday, September 29, 2006--
On this day:
In 2002:
Today, after work, I went to Uncle's Games and did a Ravnica-Guildpact-Dissension booster draft.

It was pretty crazy. We had 16 people show up, so 2 tables of 8 each. And I got passed so many Boros, Orzhov, and Rakdos cards that I naturally ended up playing Boros-Orzhov-Rakdos (Red-White-Black, for those of you unfamiliar with the guilds). Crazier still, I got passed a grand total of 10 removal cards. Too bad I only had enough room to run 8.

Anyways, here's what my deck looks like:
6xMountain
6xPlains
4xSwamp
Rakdos Carnarium
Scorched Rusalka
Pyromatics
Gnat Alley Creeper
Indentured Oaf
Cackling Flames
Stalking Vengeance
2xBoros Recruit
Thundersong Trumpeter
Boros Swiftblade
Condemn
2xGhost Warden
Paladin of Prahv
Mourning Thrull
Orzhov Guildmage
Castigate
Agent of Masks
Disembowel
Mortipede
Hit & Run
Wrecking Ball
Twinstrike

Heh... I used another rare again. Stalking Vengeance this time.

Other interesting cards that I drafted include Streetbreaker Wurm and Rix Maadi, Dungeon Palace.

Round one was against this dood named Eric. Apparently, he had started back in, like, 3rd edition (Unlimited?), took a long hiatus, and started playing against just last week. In any case, after a long, difficult game 1 where he beat me, I came back and ran him over in the second game. With only 5 minutes left in the round, we decided to call it a draw. Record: 0-0-1

Round two was against this dood named Sam. In both games, I managed to beat him with the Scorched Rusalka-Stalking Vengeance combo, sac'ing a lot of creatures to deal direct damage for the win. It amused me. Record: 1-0-1

Round three was against this kid who's name I forget. We played a few close games, but eventually, he was able to beat me. Record: 1-1-1

Round four was against this dood named Ian, who apparently had drafted the exact same deck I had. (Clearly, he must have been at the other table.) Anyways, in our first game, since we both had Orzhov components, we ended up stalemating at around 10 life each, draining each other back and forth and back and forth. Finally, I broke the stalemate by casting Pyromatics and replicating it 4 times (for a total of 5 damage), to wipe out all but one of his creatures. From there, it was just me running him over with my doods. Second game, I got out an early Boros Swiftblade and a few Ghost Wardens. After that, it was just a brutal beating. Record: 2-1-1

Apparently, my efforts were rewarded by three booster packs. (I picked Dissension for all of them.) Interesting cards in my booster include Blood Crypt (w00t! Dual land!), Protean Hulk, and Omnibian.

In any case, there's no better way to return to booster drafting after a few month's hiatus than by winning two rounds and earning 3 boosters.

Also, I met a guy from Microsoft, and apparently, the Microsoft M:TG players meet every Tuesday night in the 16-17-18 cafeteria at 7pm. I should join them. I mean, it doesn't conflict with watching Stargate and Battlestar, right?

Thursday, September 28, 2006--Happy Birthday, Hedgehog!

On this day:
In 2004:
Anyways, today at work, I requisitioned my non-existent officemate's mail machine and installed Vista on it. It amused me endlessly.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but, I'm looking forward to going to work tomorrow morning, if for no other reason than to continue setting up my Vista machine.

Tuesday, September 26, 2006--I did some more testing with sliver decks. Yesterday, it was mono-blue. Today, it's mono-green. I'll tell you how it goes later.

Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 3) Total: 7

Good Night!
Monday, September 25, 2006--It's official. I'm gonna be in San Jose from Dec 23 until Jan 2. If you're somebody I care about, be sure leave some space in your schedule so that we can hang out. Yes, I know it's a short vacation. I haven't been here that long, so I haven't had that much time to accumulate vacation days. Besides, if I'm on vacation too long, I'd prolly just get bored.

Work work!

Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 5) Total: 6

The end! ...I mean, Good Night!
Sunday, September 24, 2006--Today, I tested out a new sliver deck with Time Spiral slivers. It's a mono-white sliver deck. It's essentially White Sliver Weenies. It was better than expected, but not too impressive.

On this day:
In 2005: Ravnica Prerelease.

In the afternoon, I was hit with what was prolly the most painful headache I've ever experienced. All the pain was focused on a single point at the side of my head. It was like somebody hit me upside the head with a lobo. Except no one hit me upside the head with a lobo. At least, I don't think so.

Anyways, after sleeping for 4-6 hours, I woke up and I was feeling fine.

Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 5) Total: 8

Bad Headache!
Saturday, September 23, 2006--
Time Spiral Prerelease! w00t!

There are a few differences between the Pre-release here in Seattle and the Pre-releases back in San Jose.
  1. People are divided into flights of 64 rather than one ginormous flight of 500+ people.
  2. It's 5 rounds instead of 4.
  3. You get way more prizes.
  4. (As a corollary to the previous two items,) It's harder to win prizes, but if you do, you get way more.
Also, slivers are back! w00t!

Anyways, I built a Red-Black deck with a splash of Blue. Here's how my deck ended up looking like:
6xMountain
5xSwamp
6xIsland
Lightning Axe
Goblin Skycutter
Mogg War Marshal
Blazing Blade Askari
Orcish Cannonade
2xKeldon Halberdier
Fury Sliver
Greater Gargadon
Sangrophage
Basal Sliver
Assassinate
Tendrils of Corruption
Gorgon Recluse
Avatar of Woe
Screeching Sliver
Looter il-Kor
Spiketail Drakeling
2xCancel
Vesuvan Shapeshifter
Chromatic Star
Stuffy Doll

Other cards in my pool included: Magus of the Candelabra, Spike Tiller, Mistform Ultimus, Cockatrice, Bad Moon, The Rack, Harmonic Sliver, and Watcher Sliver.

I don't remember the first round very much, but I do remember that I won pretty brutally. Record: 1-0 Second round, though, I lost. Record: 1-1

Third round, I played against this kid. I ran him over in the first game with my Greater Gargadon, but he got out his Sengir Nosferatu in games 2 and 3 and beat me with it. Sengir Nosferatu is just a really demoralizing card to play against, because it's really hard to kill. No, harder than that. Record: 1-2

After the match, he wanted my Betrayers of Kamigawa 20-sided die, so I traded it to him for a handful of slivers, including: Psionic Sliver, Firewake Sliver, Vampiric Sliver, Mindlash Sliver, Two-Headed Sliver, Sidewinder Sliver, and Venser's Sliver.

Fourth round, I went up against this dood. Game 1, I won with my Greater Gargadon. The thing is, Greater Gargadon costs 9R to hardcast. So if you want to hardcast him, for all intents and purposes, he's unplayable. But you can suspend him for R. But it's suspend 10. So in game 1, I suspended the Greater Gargadon on turn 1. So the whole game, my opponent was trying to bash me down before the Greater Gargadon came into play. He got me down to 1 life. Then, I hit something with Tendrils of Corruption to rise back to 3 life. Then, he brought me back down to 1 life. Then, the Gargadon came into play, and I killed him that very turn. Second game, he had a really good start, but I cleaned up his side of the board with removal and then built up an army of my own. From there, I just ran my guys over the red zone until I won. Record: 2-2

Since I already had 2 losses, I already knew I wasn't gonna win any prizes. So instead, I went to artists booth where Pete Venters would be vending and signing cards. I got a few cards signed, including a Crovax that I just got traded to me, as well as a Phyrexian Dreadnought print and artist proof. It was only unfortunate that I couldn't get a real Phyrexian Dreadnought for him to sign, but at least I got the second and third best things.

Yeah, I didn't win anything (just like that time at the Guildpact prerelease), but the important thing is, I had fun. And I have new slivers to play with. And I met Mark Rosewater.

Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 4) Total: 10

Good Night! Don't let the slivers bite!
Friday, September 22, 2006--Happy Birthday, mom!

Saturday, September 16, 2006--I know I said I'd never do this, but I went to work today. On a Saturday. Something about there being a hard deadline coming up on Sunday Night and I had to finish up a bug.

On the bright side, I did manage to finish up the bug before 4pm, so I went home.

On this day:
In 2003: I "met" Melody Hsu.

I also played Dawn of War. It's an interesting game. I like how you can reinforce your troops right on the battlefield rather than building troops at your barracks and waiting for them to walk across the map. It also amuses me how artillery send people flying.

Friday, September 15, 2006--Today, I got off work early and drove through rush hour traffic so that I could go to Uncle's Games to play some Friday Night Magic (: the Gathering), only to find out that they're doing Type 2 Constructed today. And I don't have a Type 2 Constructed deck. (Or any tournament deck, for that matter... but Justin does, oddly enough.) It makes me sad.

On this day:
In 2004: Little Vivian IMs me on AIM for some reason.

On my way back, I stopped by at GameStop and bought a copy of Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War, which was recommended to me by MichCh. I also bought a copy of the Disgaea 2 Strategy Guide on impulse. It's a really good guide. Granted, that might just because GameFAQs has almost nothing on Disgaea 2 at the moment.

Speaking of GameFAQs, they're doing another character battle. (I still remember the first one. It was the inspiration for a number of shenanigans (sp?) on my old website.) I'm down one point on my bracket because I picked Celes over The Boss.

Sunday, September 10, 2006--
I beat Disgaea 2 today. 11 days after I got it. And on three of those days, I was at work and didn't even play. On my save file at the beginning of the second cycle, my Adell is at level 65, and the clock is at 57:15:54.

All I can say is, there is a major spoiler in the ending. I dunno if I got the best ending though. GameFAQs has, like, no information on endings.

*dis2*I actually didn't clear all those subpoenas. I got 40 felonies on one character, and then I got bored of clearing subpoenas. So I went to the Dark Assembly, got my Product Rank to level 8, and then bought some expensive gear. Yeah, that's all I really needed. Really expensive gear to clear the last 2 levels. I went from 3.5mil HL to 100k HL. But hey, I'm underlevelled, well-equipped, and I beat the game, so it's all good, right?

Next: Dark World, Cave of Ordeals, Treasure Maps, Flonne!
*dis2*

Good Night!
Saturday, September 9, 2006--Happy 18th Birthday, Conifer!

More Disgaea.

*dis2*Heh, my healer managed to get a legendary subpoena, with the bailiff all the way down at level 62. (Normally, it's between 6 and 30.) I dunno if I even have a strength to go through 62 floors of the item world. Also, my archer has 26 felonies on her now. I wonder what the maximum is? I'm guessing 99, because the display for felonies only shows 2 digits. What happens when I hit 99? What'll happen when I go over 99, if the game will even let me.

Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 1) Total: 5

Good Night!
Friday, September 8, 2006--Finished work so that I could go play Disgaea 2.

I'm still stuck on the second to last mission, but at least I unlocked the *dis2*Dark World and the Cave of Ordeals. Unfortunately, each area in the Dark World needs special conditions to unlock, and since I don't have internet at the moment, I don't know how to unlock them. As for the Cave of Ordeals, the first two areas were (relatively) easy, but I'm just way out-levelled for Cave of Ordeals 3. Anyways, now I'm just claiming my felonies from my subpoenas. I have over 100 of them.*dis2*

Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 1) Total: 7

On the bright, my land line phone is working now. If by some chance someone wants my new phone number, IM me.

Good Night!
Thursday, September 7, 2006--Dood!

Wednesday, September 6, 2006--Another non-descript day. Why is the "p" in non-descript silent? Or maybe it's not silent and I've been pronouncing it wrong all my life.

Man, I really need internet at home.

Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 4) Total: 9

I also worked on Demons Engine Architecture 3 today.

On my way back, I stopped by at the music store to buy new earphones. No, there's nothing wrong with my current pair. I just wanted to have separate earphones for my MP3 player and my laptop so that I didn't have to distach/re-attach all the time. While I was there, I wandered into the movie section and, on impulse, I bought Chasing Amy (another Jay & Silent Bob movie). It was a pretty good movie. It's the most serious of all the J&SB movies. It made me think about girls and relationships. And then, I went to bed, and when I woke up in the morning, I forgot all about it.

Good Night!
Monday, September 4, 2006--Happy Labor Day!

Don't go into labor, now!

Anyways, I wanted to beat Disgaea 2 before I go back to work tomorrow, but then I got stuck on the 2nd to last mission. I'm way under-levelled, and under most circumstances, my superior tactics probably would have carried the day. But not this time. This time, the Geo Panels are literally out to get me, and I have about 8 turns to win. I simply don't have the firepower nor the defensive capabilities to rush this kind of battle. Normally, my tactics involve the standard lure, kill, rinse, and repeat tactics. A very slow but steady tactic for the under-levelled Disgaea player.

On a totally unrelated note, is it just because my skills have improved since the first Disgaea, or is Disgaea 2 easier than the original? In the first Disgaea, I got my ass kicked by Mid-Boss on a regular basis, but in Disgaea 2, I was totally undefeated until the second to last mission.

Well, I'm grossly under-levelled, so it's time to level up.

Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 4) Total: 9

Sunday, September 3, 2006--Even more Disgaea 2. Yeah, Disgaea 2 is just that damn awesome.
