- Justin Kuo makes his first appearance on my Journal.
Physics 7B Lecture...
Lunchfast at the Golden Bear...
Math 54 Lecture...
The EE20N Lecture was a continuation of last night's pointless review session that I did not go to last night, so after listening for 5 minutes, I got up and left.
Break...
Greek Literature...
Really, really quick dinner with Joyce...
I had to miss my CS61A Discussion for the...
Physics 7B Midterm #1... granted, it
was harder than the first one, but I'm pretty confident that I'm on top of the
curve for this one.
I ended my night with the CS61A Pre-lecture quiz that doesn't work and with slacking off for an hour and a half doing nothing productive (or even close to productive) before I say...
Good Night!
Monday, September 29, 2003--
Sunday Addendum below...
Hey! It's my website's
first-year anniversary! Everyone, say
Happy Birthday to my website!
Heh... my website's birthday is
one day after Sarah's. How amusing...
Anyways, my website has had its ups and downs, where ups is when I had that big
Dark Fiends posting spree and downs is every time I fell behind. I'm working on
Dark Fiends as hard as I can, I swear.
Anyways, I invite
anyone to draw some
fanart of
any scene or object or character from
Dark Fiends. The winning entries will receive a
permanent appearance on my website under the
Dark Fiends section.
(Hehe... I like
hilighting stuff... Don't worry, it's just for today's
1-year-anniversay entry.)
A Year Ago Today: Alan Watson makes his first appearance on my Journal.
Anyways...
Physics 7B Discussion...
While reading on the 7th floor lounge, I saw Kim and somehow recognized her by the
back of her head...
Lunch...
I skipped the EE20N Discussion, but not before
visiting Melody in the discussion room.
CS61A Lecture...
Math 54 Lecture...
Dinner...
I left Mark and Ryan at the Crossroads so I could go back early and prepare psychologically my CS61A midterm. (I didn't need to study...) I rode in the elevator with Kim and her friends. She gave me an uneasy "hi", but at least she
took the initiative to greet me. That's it, Kim.
Feel guilty unless you say hi to me on the elevator! Mwahahaha!!!
...
Oh, man! That midterm was
slaughter.
...
That's right... I
slew the CS61A midterm. It succumbed to the
mighty spearpoint of my pencil! Die, midterm, die!
Anyways, I aced the CS61A midterm, which gives me the right to slack off (hell, I
always slack off, but now I have an excuse), so... yeah.
Anyways, that seems to be all. So...
Good Night!
Sunday, September 28, 2003 - Addendum--Damn... I forgot to write this yesterday, so it comes up a day late, but nevertheless, it comes out on Sunday, September 28.
Happy Birthday, Sarah!
As her birthday gift, I'm setting up here the artwork of Princess Sarah from FF1 as a tribute to her...

Hehehe...
Sunday, September 28, 2003--Today, I woke up. Then, I played Warcraft III. Damn... I slacked off too much this weekend, just like last weekend.
Then, I went online a bunch. Hehe... the return of boring Sundays. That's about it.
Good Night!
Saturday, September 27, 2003--Today, I woke up and looked at some MTG stuff. Then, I went to the Cal VS USC game.
The USC Trojans are ranked #3 in the NCAA. We were expected to get creamed. Instead, in the first quarter, we had a really good start and we got the first touchdown. The quarter ended with a score of 7-7. By the end of the second quarter, we were leading 21-7.
However, in the second half, the Trojans started fighting back. At the end of the 3rd quarter, the score was tied 21-21.
The end of the game was intense. During the fourth quarter, we made a field goal and got the score to 24-21. However, with about 20 seconds left on the clock, USC tied it with a field goal of their own. We went into
three overtimes, each one more tense than the last, and in the end, we finally won with a field goal!
Woot! Upset Victory for Cal. Bear fans chant "Overrated!" at the USC fans!
It was a good game. Some say the best since "The Play" against Stanford so many years ago.
Then, after dinner, I called Connie, but she was in the middle of watching the movie, so I told her I'd call her again some other day and hung up on her, which, in retrospect, was a
really bad move. I'll apologize to her next time.
Anyways, for the rest of the night, I played Warcraft III, where I beat Alan twice. Then, Alan and I, as a team, lost once to Justin alone, then to Ryan alone, then to an insane comp alone twice. Then, Mark and Alan teamed up against the insane comp and got lucky, since the insane comp was sandwiched
right in between them, which isn't supposed to happen. Then, Justin and Ryan rushed the comp and won.
That was the end of the line, so then I went back to my room and said, "Good Night!"
Friday, September 26, 2003--Today, I woke up later than usual and went to my EE20N Lab, which I owned!
Break, then lunch...
CS61A Lecture, during which I saw Tracy's friend with a 2x2x2 Rubik's Cube.
Math 54 Discussion, during which Leonard try to teach me how to solve a Rubik's cube. I didn't get it.
After classes, I tried to catch up with my
MTG stuff.
Then, I went to a fencing tournament.
Elvira got stabbed in the throat. It was pretty bad. What made it worse was that there were a few bad calls in the previous bout, which cost her the victory, so she was pretty upset about that.
So... yeah, that made us feel even more sorry for her.
Fortunately, there was no blood, no puncture, but she was in extreme pain for about 5 minutes. During that time, the entire tournament pretty much stopped. Poor Elvira!
(Later, she came back into the tournament, and I fenced her and got creamed.)
By the way, I lost all my bouts in the tournament.
Afterwards, we went to a party at Zach's place, where some of us played Goldeneye, and I
owned... until Jeremiah started playing and he owned me. Darn... Oh, well. I suppose you can't always be the best.
At one point, while this guy and I were playing a License to Kill battle, he fired at me, and I fired back and we both died. He was like, "Dude! I fired first! I had the right of way! You have to parry my bullet!" Heh... you'd have to be a fencer to get that joke.
Then, I played cards with Anton, Elvira, and some guy who's name I forgot.
I finally went back to my room at 2:30am. Good Night!
Thursday, September 25, 2003--Sorry, I had a bunch of late entries. Today's entry was late because I stayed up at night for so long finishing Physics Homework, but that's no excuse, is it?
Anyways...
Physics 7B Lecture...
I met up with Steven at the Golden Bear to discuss the lunchfast and eat some EE20N Homework. Then, I turned in the homework. (Wait...)
I hung out for half an hour in the Library, then went to the Math 54 Lecture...
EE20N Lecture... We were let out about half an hour early, so I had a long conversation with Melody until Steven caught up with us and joined in on our conversation. I noticed a lot of things about Melody for the first time today, which I will not say here, because they are far too personal.
After a long break in the dorm, I went to Greek Literature...
Dinner with Joyce, who could have gone to the Foothill Cafeteria, but decided to come to the Crossroads with me because she wanted to relax after her Math midterm.
CS61A Lab, which I finished in half an hour.
Back at my dorm, I saw Connie on AIM and talked to her a little. It made me happy...
After that, I went fencing. Not much to say about that.
Anyways, that's all. Good Night!
Wednesday, September 24, 2003--*sigh*...
Stabbing Ovelia, yo!
Apparently, this entry is full of random gibberish.
Physics 7B Lab... I aced the quiz!
4 hour break and Lunch...
CS61A Lecture... Tracy's friend was playing with a Rubik's cube and she was very good at it, just like Leonard from my Math 54 Discussion is very good at the Rubik's Cube.
Math 54 Discussion... I aced the other quiz!
Dinner...
...
Good Night!
Tuesday, September 23, 2003--Tired...
Physics 7B Lecture...
Lunchfast at the Golden Bear...
Math 54 Lecture...
EE20N Lecture...
Greek Literature...
Dinner without Joyce, since Joyce was at a review session for her math class.
CS61A Discussion... Heh, for the first time ever, I used a "cadar" in my program.
*sigh* It's been way too long since I've last had the chance to talk to Connie. I really miss her. I've fallen into depression again... To Connie, if you ever get the chance to read this: Don't let peer pressure and social expectations get to you. The age difference doesn't mean anything. The only thing that matters is that I love you. Remember that, and never forget me.
Good Night...
Monday, September 22, 2003--*stab*
Physics 7B Discussion... I slept and that girl commented that she saw me sleeping in the back corner of the room.
I read
The Libation Bearers, the second play of the Oresteia trilogy.
Lunch...
EE20N Discussion... Actually, I skipped this one, but not before talking to Melody... Then, I came back to see the last 2 minutes of the discussion and briefly chatted with Melody again.
CS61A Lecture...
Math 54 Discussion...
I finally finished my CS61A Mini-Project. At Leonard's advice, I decided to immunize my project from any evil test cases some evil kid might create, like Leonard himself. Of course, none of my test cases are evil, because I'm compassionate... kind of.
Dinner with Mark and Ryan, and in passing, we saw Jaylum. I also saw Kim, so I went and talked to her. She didn't seem to want me around. Good riddance. As Alex said, she was a weird girl and that it was better that I have nothing to do with her at all. Still...
Heh... stabbing Ovelia has become an all-purpose metaphor for pretty much anything. IE...
Me: I want to "stab" "Ovelia".
Alan: Yes... you'd better "polish" your "sword" everyday until you have the chance to "use it".
Stabbing Ovelia...
Fencing is good for you. After taking out my rage and
stabbing some newbies and amateurs (and winning a few bouts simply by sheer rage), I didn't feel quite so angry at Kim anymore.
*stabs Kim anyway*
*stabs Kim repeatedly*
I have, undoubtedly, gone insane.
Mark: No, you're just crazy.
Whatever... Good Night!
*stab*
Sunday, September 21, 2003--Last night, I couldn't sleep, so I got up and
beat FFTactics. Here are my thoughts in spoiler text.
*T*
I just beat FFTactics Saturday night (not including the Cloud and Deep Dungeon sidequests). My playing time at the last save (just before Altima) was 36'47"41. My Ramza was at level 35, Orlandu at 40, Agrias at 37, Mustadio at 34, and a generic sword-wielding White Mage with Summon magic at level 34 (as opposed to the level 50+ enemies).
Yes, I was 15-20 levels underlevelled, and I STILL kicked ass.
Anyways, during the battle against Rofel, HE BROKE ALL MY ARMOR, and I still managed to beat the game.
Against Kletian, I, lacking confidence in my unarmored team, didn't take the battle too seriously. However, when I slayed Kletian so utterly easily (and without armor), I decided to actually try and beat the game. I found some weaker armors I had stocked up and equipped them for the next few battles.
LOL, Hashmalum commited suicide... Heh, toward the end, he targeted Mustadio with Melt, and since Mustadio is my best melee fighter, I ran him up to Hashmalum and attacked him. Then, when Melt resolved (Mustadio fell also) Hashmalum took 300 damage and died! Then, he sacrificed himself for St. Ajora... LOL, that means he commited suicide TWICE.
In my opinion, Hashmalum was harder than Altima. In the beginning, I had Orlandu slay the four Ultima Demons in two turns with his dreaded Lightning Stab. Then, from there, Altima was a sitting duck.
Heh... Alma was my strongest character at Level 56. She's also the best computer-controlled ally I've ever had.
As for the ending... Delita stabbed Ovelia. WTF?!?
[My over-simplified version of the scene]
Delita: It's your birthday. I brought you some flowers.
Ovelia: No, you're just going to kill me.
Delita: Okay... *stabs Ovelia*
WTF?!?
And the best scene of all... "Defeat Dycedarg's elder brother!"
Anyways, FFTactics is one of the best FFs I've ever played. The other best is FF5. I LOVE the Job System!*T*
Of course, I still haven't beaten the sidequests yet. That's what I did after a Dim Sum lunch.
Then, I went back to Berkeley and arrived just in time to meet Mark, Ryan, and 2 of the 3 girls across the hall for dinner. Unfortunately, I decided to remain behind at the cafeteria for ice cream--a
big mistake. Argh!!!
The CS61A quiz today was
pure evil!!! Evil! Evil! Evil!.
Ack! The spiders! They're crawling all over me!
My room is infested with bugs...
Anyway, I leave you with that. This long entry... (Mostly FFTactics stuff.)
Good Night!
Saturday, September 20, 2003--After lunch at KFC, I played a lot of FFTactics. I think I'm almost at the end now.
*T*
"Defeat Dycedarg's elder brother!" LOL, Dycedarg has no elder brother. I think they meant something to the effect of "Zalbag's" or "Ramza's older brother", or "eldest brother Dycedarg."
When you defeat Adramelk, he says, "Shit! It still isn't right." Wow... I didn't know they swore in FFTactics.*T*
After dinner to go from McDonald's, I played Advance Wars 2 with Franklin. So far, I am the board's largest threat with my Sami and my infantry swarm tactics.
Hmm... that's it. I'll talk to you later! Bye!
I mean, Good Night!
Friday, September 19, 2003--EE20N Lab...
During the lab, I created this image. Basically, I split an image (that the lab provided) into its Red, Green, and Blue components. I thought it was pretty amusing.
Lunch at the Crossroads...
CS61A Lecture...
Math 54 Discussion...
On an unrelated note, I've almost finished my CS61A mini-project. I just need to design the test cases.
Dinner at the Crossroads...
Then, after dinner, I went home and played some FFTactics. Orlandu really is powerful, but he's got no skills, man. He could be stronger... but he isn't.
Anyways, that's all I have to say. It's getting late now. I wish you a Good Night!
Thursday, September 18, 2003--I've learned that in life, you have to have faith. You have to believe in the good things in the world, even if you can't see them, because they are there. Through my trials of these last few days, I've learned to have faith. I've learned that whenever you've fallen into the darkness, there will be a light to guide you. You can find happiness even in a sea of sorrow, if only you believe...
Physics 7B Lecture...
Lunchfast at the Golden Bear... they ran out of chocolate milk. )=
The Math 54 Lecture was cancelled today since Professor Knutson was away.
EE20N... before, during, and after the lecture I was talking with Melody again. I realized that she sounds a lot like Joanna...
Greek Literature... apparently, I did pretty well on my essay.
Dinner without Joyce... (Her class was cancelled, so she wasn't conveniently located to go to the Crossroads.)
I almost slept through the CS61A Lab today, but I woke up and showed up 5 minutes late and finished the lab in 10 minutes (thanks to the art of pre-doing the lab, hehehehe).
I talked to Steph Yaung on AIM today. It's been a long time since I've talked to her. Apparently, she's only getting 5 hours of sleep a night, and she's only a sophomore. Poor Stephanie... (Now I understand what kind of workload Connie has...)
I went Fencing today and learned the disengage technique, or how to get around a parry (block). Unfortunately, it's a lot easier to fast-parry several times in succession than it is to disengage.
Anyway... that seems to be all the day consists of. Good Night to you all!
I have faith in her...
Wednesday, September 17, 2003--Whoa... I just realized... It's Frankie's birthday today... and I forgot... whoops!
Anyways...
Happy Birthday, Little Bro!
There we go.
Anyways, this time, I'm a do the events of the day in order.
Physics 7B Lab... During the quiz,
I misplaced a goddamn minus sign, which thus ruined what appeared to be a majority of my quiz.
BIG breakfast at the Golden Bear...
Small/late lunch at Crossroads...
CS61A Lecture...
I met another really young-looking girl who's name I think was Chelsea? Meh. Whatever.
Math 54 Discussion... We had a quiz, which I aced.
I also realized that I forgot to turn in my EE20N homework. Oh well. I still have tomorrow morning.
So I tried to call Connie today. I got her mother, who told me she was busy doing homework. Then, Albert advised me to call Connie on the weekend instead, when she doesn't have homework to do, but for me, that's a problem, because she might not be home on the weekend, but it's worth a try.
Dinner with Mark and Ryan...
That's all there is to comment on today... For the rest, there's the night.
Good Night!
Tuesday, September 16, 2003--I've started stockpiling food! I have extra meals that I need to get rid of, so today, I bought four Rice Krispy Treats after dinner. Now, they are sitting in my refrigerator.
After the stockpiling of the Rice Krispy Treats, I called Connie, but she said she was busy doing homework since she had piano lessons that day and didn't have time to do her homework, so I'd have to call her another day.
Mind you, normally she's not so busy that she can't even talk on the phone... When I called her on her birthday, she was so... willing... to talk on the phone that
I had to hang up on her... which, in retrospect, was a bad idea.
Also, after my EE20N class, I caught up with and talked to Melody Hsu, the college sophomore who I know (and she remembers me) from Leland, and we talked a lot... more than I expected from
her of all people. I also found out today that I don't actually remember hearing her speak anytime before this... I actually don't remember meeting her, either. I just kind of... know her.
Between my Physics 7B Lecture and my Math 54 Lecture, I went shopping for pants and found nothing. Then, after my EE20N Lecture, I went to the Gap and bought 5 pairs of pants for a total of $200, but when I called my mom, she was really upset and made me return all of them except for 2 cheap ones, so I ended up spending only $40 on 2 pairs of khakis, both the same color.
Also, at my CS61A Discussion, we discovered that "nil" is both an atom
and a list, which, if you know Scheme, is impossible. It's also a list while
not being a pair, which is even more impossible. Nil... the ultimate Scheme paradox. The damn thing gives you nightmares.
I noticed that today's entry is highly fragmented... Well, here's the easy list of things I did today:
- Physics 7B Lecture
- Lunchfast at the Golden Bear
- Pants shopping at Bancroft Clothing, Co - utter failure
- Math 54 Lecture
- EE20N Lecture
- Friendly chat with Melody Hsu
- Buying pants from the GAP and the pants fiasco
- Greek Literature Lecture
- Dinner at Crossroads
- Stockpiling Rice Krispy Treats
- CS61A Discussion
- Phone call to Connie Chu
That's about it. Of course, there's still the CS61A pre-lecture quiz that I have neglected to do, and I still need to do that, so I will go do that now. Good Night, everybody!
Monday, September 15, 2003--After all my classes today, I tried to call Connie. Instead, I got her sister, who told me that Connie is "studying really hard" and that she can't come to the phone. It made me feel really depressed for some reason, so I wrote Connie a long e-mail...
Let's move back to the beginning of the day...
Physics 7B Discussion...
3 hour break, which included lunch...
EE20N Discussion...
CS61A Lecture...
Math 54 Discussion...
Hmm... that was fast. It was at this point that I called Connie.
Dinner...
I went fencing and fought some bouts, and I won 2 out of 4, but all my bouts were against novice fencers, so... well, it's better than nothing.
I've started talking to people's Away Messages on AIM since some people are away so much. Perhaps I should go visit them in person instead of talk to them on AIM, since some of them live in the same building as I, but... not at 11:30 at night.
Speaking of night, let it be a Good Night!
The Greek Goddess "Night" is called Nyx.
Sunday, September 14, 2003--Today's events can be expressed very, very quickly...
I played Warcraft III. I worked on my Warcraft III Scenario. I worked on my homework. I had lunch and dinner.
Hmm... I'm trying to think...
Nope. Today was highly uneventful. Sorry. Traditionally, Sundays usually are.
So... yeah. Good Night!
Saturday, September 13, 2003--In case anyone's wondering, I'm holding off all the remaining
Dark Fiends until I get the storylines finished for the rest of the series.
Also, today is Saturday, which means slack-off day! I also did a little bit of Comp Sci and Math homeworks. I also played some Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne... I hope...
Lunch with Mark... I saw amusing things... I'm a bad kid... really...
Hmm... today is highly uneventful. Either that or it's not memorable, but to me, both of those are one and the same. If it's not a memorable event, it's not an event.
So... bye! Good Night!
Friday, September 12, 2003--LOL...
Last night, someone added "Dwayne is my knight in shining armor! [heart] XOXO" to my message board at about 11pm. I know it was within a 10 minute timeframe, because I went to take a shit, and when I came back, all of a sudden, that message was there.
But it got erased tonight...
Anyways...
EE20N Lab... It was easy.
Lunch...
CS61A Lecture...
Math 54 Discussion...
Dinner with Mark and Ryan...
After dinner, Mark and I played chess in the laundry room while waiting for the laundry to be done. He beat me two out of two...
After finishing our laundries, Mark visited my room and we had the following conversation:
Mark: Is Kim online?
Me: Why?
Mark: Because she left her clothes in the washing machine.
Me: Wait...
Kim?!?
Mark: Yes. She came in while we were playing chess.
Me: How come I don't remember that?
Mark: Maybe because you were focused on the chess game.
Me: No, I think I would have noticed if Kim walked into the laundry room.
And they say
I'm delusional...
Later, while playing WarCraft III with the guys... here are some sample conversations between me and Ryan:
Ryan: Kill!
Me: Vil!
Ryan: Mill!
Me: Nil!
Ryan: Hill!
Me: Bill!
Ryan: Lil!
Me: Lily?
Ryan: Till!
Me: Lily!
Ryan: Chill!
Me: Lily!
Ryan: Jill!
Me: Yily!
Mark: Connie!
Me: ...
Mark: Connie rhymes.
Me: ...Bonnie!
Mark: Kim! ...Wait, that doesn't rhyme.
Me: ...like lurkers.
Ryan: Lurk!
Me: Kirk!
Ryan: Murk!
Me: Dirk!
Ryan: Jerk!
Me: Firk!
Ryan: Ed Ferguson!
Me: The horse?
Ryan: Indeed!
Ryan: Lobo! Chobo!
Me: Wiegraf! Velius!
Ryan: Taco!
Me: Yeah, between Taco and Velius, I'm sure Taco wins.
Ryan: That's right! The Taco will kick your ass!
Amusing...
Anyways, not much more to say tonight that I can remember... I can't remember.
You know what would be excellent? If Connie had a website.
Anyways, Good Night!
Wow... long entry...
Thursday, September 11, 2003--In memory of all those guys who were killed in the tragic event of two years ago... Terrorism sucks! I say from now on, we should only play Counter-Terrorists when we play Counter-Strike and put a boycott on the Terrorist team. Of course, such a set up would make the game kind of suck...
Anyways, Physics 7B Lecture...
Math 54 Lecture...
EE20N Lecutre... I made the following notes about lectures and boredom:
This class is so boring that even my slack-off time is more intellectually stimulating.
Some people are bored in class because they don't care about the subject. I'm bored because the teacher spends so much time explaining things to slower kids that I'm left waiting through stuff that I already understand for some new material.
In short, the class is too easy!
Ranking of the most boring classes:
- EE20N
- Math 54
- CS61A
- Physics 7B
- Classics 100A
Physics and Classics are the only ones worth listening to...
Greek Literature... Hesiod's "Theogeny" is good stuff!
Dinner with Joyce...
CS61A Lab... Because I pre-did the lab, I was in and out in 30 minutes. I would have gotten through it quicker if Exercise didn't require partner work.
After working on my
Iliad Essay, I went fencing, where I fought my first bout, although we didn't keep score and we didn't have a director. It was just a practice bout, but it was still fun.
Anyways, I'm looking for FFTactics MP3s, particularly the music for the battle at the Golgorand Execution Site and The Pervert (battle against Queklain, Velius, et all).
Hmm... that is all. Good Night!
I feel... happy...
Wednesday, September 10, 2003--Today, we finally did a Lab in Physics 7B Lab...
During my 4 hour break, I read and finished Hesiod's Theogony. It's a good piece about the mythology of the gods.
Lunch...
CS61A Lecture...
Math 54 Discussion... I only went to do the quiz, which I completed quite easily.
Lots of free time = productivity + slack-off time = finished homework + happy Dwayne!
Dinner...
Hmm... There should be
something important to write here tonight, but I don't remember what it is.
So anyways, Good Night!
Tuesday, September 9, 2003--
Happy Birthday, Connie!
Whee!
Physics 7B Lecture...
I tried the Traditional Bear breakfast at the Golden Bear. It's the most food you can buy for only $3. Of course, I decided to spend another meal to get some chocolate milk.
Math 54 Lecture...
EE20N Lecture...
I finished the Iliad. It's a damn good book, especially Lattimore's translation. I whole-heartedly recommend it to you, especially if you like Greek Mythology.
Greek Literature...
Dinner without Joyce, as she had to go to the Regent's and Chancellor's meeting. She missed them tasty chicken nuggets and some
huge racks of BBQ ribs.
CS61A Lab, where I learned some useful stuff.
Anyways, my computer decided to screw up today. I spent nearly two hours trying to fix it, only to find out that my Active Desktop was screwed up, so I needed to disable it and convert my wallpaper from JPEG to BMP. I hope it's finally fixed now. It would
really suck if it weren't.
"Dwayne is". That was what it said on the message board just outside my dorm room. However, someone appended "hot!" at the end, so now it reads "Dwayne is hot!" I don't know who did it, and I'm not sure why.
Since today is Connie's birthday, I called her. She said that she really liked the stuffed bear I gave her. That makes me really happy! :D
Anyway, that's really all I have to say. Everything else is just pointless details.
Hey, does anyone enjoy reading my Journal? No? I thought so.
Okay! Good Night!
Monday, September 8, 2003--Today, in the Physics 7B Discussion, we had a quiz, and it was an evil quiz. The thing is, we were given 10 g of ice at 0 degrees C and 10 g of water at 50 degrees C and ask at what temperature the final mixture would be. I set it up perfectly, or so I thought, but I ended up with an answer of -14 degrees C...
The ice didn't melt! So I had to scramble to fix everything up and get the proper answer of zero degrees.
Lunch at Crossroads...
Also, I downloaded SSH and Hummingbird so I could connect to the CS61A computer and submit my homework.
EE20N Discussion...
CS61A Lecture...
Math 54 Discussion...
Kim says... weird things...
I went Fencing today and learned how to parry, but my partner sucked pretty bad, so I need a better partner to train with. And Anne Su joined fencing.
Hmm... that seems to be all for today. Well, I'll see you all later. Good Night!
Sunday, September 7, 2003--Today morning, I woke up and had to help Franklin with his English homework. Darn...
Anyways, after doing a little homework, I went back to Berkeley, and my parents gave a ride to Mark, but as I arrived, to my chagrin, I had left my key and ID card at home. No!!!
Anyway, so I got into the dorm building as Mark's guest and hung out in his room until I could get back into my room with the help of Luis.
Then, my parents came and delivered my keys and wallet (containing my cash and ID card), and I am very grateful.
I also did my laundry, and almost got the washing machines and dryers confused. "Well, you don't put detergent in the dryer, for one..." Heh.
Now, after a long night, I'm going to sleep. Good N.i..g...h....t..... ...!
Saturday, September 6, 2003--Today, I stopped by at the San Jose Chinese School just before classes ended so I could see Connie. It was good to see her again. I also handed her the stuffed Cal Bear I bought at the Berkeley store for her and gave her my hand-made birthday card. It was... good.
After lunch, I watched the football game between Cal and Colorado State. The fourth quarter was intense. It could have gone either way, until at about a minute and a half left on the clock, Colorado got an interception, and they were leading by 2 points, so there was no hope for Cal. Darn.
Then, we went to Bernard and Kellie's to hang out and play Mah-johng, the Chinese equivalent of Poker.
So anyways, Good Night!
...It was good to see you again...
Friday, September 5, 2003--I woke up later than usual because my classes on Friday start later than usual. Unfortunately for me, by the time I got to the shower, there was no warm water left, so I had to take a freezing cold shower. Not pleasant.
Anyways... EE20N Lab...
Lunch at Crossroads...
CS61A Lecture...
Math 54 Discussion, where we did an easy worksheet.
I caught the 5:17 BART to Fremont, where Mark's mom gave me a ride home.
At home... nothing much.
Good Night!
"She has disturbed my inner peace, simply by existing. That is why I have no choice but to hate her."
Thursday, September 4, 2003--I forgot to mention that I saw Mary Lou Bui at the AAA meeting yesterday, good old Mary Lou... It's been far too long since I've seen her.
Anyways, today started with Physics 7B Lab...
Lunchfast at the Golden Bear...
Math 54 Lecture...
EE20N Lecture...
Classics 100A Lecture...
Dinner
without Joyce, as she, along with a bunch of other people that I know, had to go to the Pre-med Orientation #2.
CS61A Lab... I spent an extra hour and a half finishing up the homework only to find that the server isn't accepting homework #2 yet. Darn... all that work for nothing...
Then, I went fencing. The hardest thing so far about learning how to fence is learning not to be afraid to poke people. When you first jab at someone, your initial reaction is always to pull back and say "Sorry", and then you realize that they are wearing armor and you're supposed to jab at them.
Anyways, that's the entire column for today. I wonder who actually reads this boring mess? I think Nadia once mentioned that she occasionally did, but she was probably extremely bored.
Anyways, Good Night!
Wednesday, September 3, 2003--
Finally, I ran into Christine Wu today.
But first, I went to Physics 7B Lab...
Then, as I was heading back to my dorm, I saw Christine Wu, so we chatted for a few seconds, then she had to run off to her class.
After lunchfast at the Golden Bear, I wandered around the town. Like the guy on the chancellor's lawn said, listen to those random hobos on the street. The ones that don't beg for money give good advice sometimes.
Comp Sci 61A Lecture...
Math 54 Discussion... We had a quiz, which was easy.
"Dwayne is."
So then, after eating dinner with Mark and Ryan (during dinner, I saw Kim, so I was like "Hey, look, it's Kim!" but she didn't hear me, so I just kind of left without saying anything to her, which is kind of unfriendly but whatever), we headed off to the AAA meeting. That's the Asian American Association, by the way, not the American Automobile Association or whatever the heck it was. These guys are... humorous. Apparently, the president of the AAA is Misha's older brother.
Anyway, that's about it!
Good Night!
Tuesday, September 2, 2003--I feel crazy, oh so crazy. I feel crazy, and... damn...
Anyways, after my Physics 7B lecture, I walked into the Bancroft Library, looking for a place to take a nap. Instead, I found a huge complex that I decided to explore for exploration's sake. The Bancroft Library is actually several libraries crammed into one building. I'm serious. In one library, I found a chessboard. In another library, I found a bunch of computers. In a third library, I found rows of tables stretching for hundreds of feet across the long, long room. In yet another library, I saw Kim looking for a book, so I said Hi.
I actually thought it was a pretty intriguing coincidence, considering that, unless I'm in someone's class or know where someone's going, it's very rare for me to see somebody that I know. I also found that it was intriguing that I decided to go to the library when I did, because normally I go to the Golden Bear for lunch. Thanks to this erratic change in plans for the day, I ended up running into--of all people--Kim, whom I never see, since I never go up to the 7th floor because it's discomforting to visit the all girl's floor. I can either explain this with one of two words:
- Psychism
- Fate
The first implies that I had some supernatural way to access information that should have been practically impossible for me to obtain, and that I subconsciously acted on it. The second implies that Destiny is smiling down upon me... or against me... Hmmm...
How long have I been talking about this library? Far too long, I must say. It really isn't that interesting, except I liked to explore it, and now I'm exploring it some more, but in words and in ideas. Anyways, enough about the library and about the girl I met within and about Fate. I have more important things to discuss.
Actually, I don't...
Math 54...
EE20N... The lecture was all Math and about set notation. The prof-lady said that if we already knew the material, we could just leave, so Abhi and I left. Then, after working on the Comp Sci stuff, he let me borrow Fallout 2, which according to Alan is fun, but I found a little lacking in action and storyline. It was more of those wandering around randomly and complete quests by exploring huge dungeons type thing. That's why I like FFTactics. It eliminates the long, tedious dungeons and the wandering around, so it's all battle and all storyline. FFTactics is all about the battle, and that's the way I like it. (As opposed to traditional RPGs, which have been all about exploring.)
Greek Literature...
Dinner with Joyce again. She noticed that I had my back turned to her the whole time, and yet, I seemed to know that she was there. I told her that it was the reflection. "You mean you were reflecting about me?" "No, I was looking at your reflection in that glass window... yes, I was reflecting on your reflection."
Anyways, I went to my first CS61A Discussion, which was basically "clarify the concepts for people who aren't so intellectually adept" time. I don't mean to be arrogant. There are lots of people like me. We don't need teachers or classes to learn the material. All we really need is a good textbook and some time to study it on our own. We are the self-thinkers, and we think for ourselves. Three of us in Math 54 have started going to the lectures and hanging out in the corner of the room, attending the lecture for formality's sake only (and for getting the homework...), and that may or may not continue.
It's true what they say, if you are a good student, class is a waste of time for you. What it takes the lecturer a hour to teach, we can learn on our own in half an hour. What I look for in a teacher is the ability to add something else to the class to make the class interesting, even if that material isn't completely relevant to the subject. Unfortunately, this is the kind of stuff most average students hate, as they'd prefer the teacher to lecture on the material the whole time, as they are too lazy or too unfocused to read the book and learn it for themselves. Thus, what the good students and what the average students look for in a teacher are two completely opposite things. Unfortunately, being "average students", they are the majority, and the teachers that we the self-thinkers like, the average student hates. People at Leland like Mr. Woytek and Mrs. Bergantz are really cool teachers, but they are hated because they spend too much time on interesting, but irrelevent side-topics and not enough time on the boring material that we self-thinkers could learn well enough without them.
Again, I don't mean to be arrogant, but there are a whole lot of us (more here at Berkeley than at Leland for obvious reasons), and this has been our biggest complaint. That classes are too boring not because of the material in itself, but because the material is being repeated for us at a much slower rate.
But don't worry. I'll continue attending my classes for the sake of formality... not like you care anyway.
That concludes the night. Yes, it was a Good Night!
(Heh! I went into a whole bunch of "interesting side-topics" today. Good stuff!)
Monday, September 1, 2003--I'd like to start off today's meeting with some quotes from 5 MTG cards.
"Familiarity, the first myth of reality: What you know the best, you observe the least."--Mistform Mutant
"Devotion, the second myth of reality: The faithful are most hurt by the objects of their faith."--Mistform Dreamer
"Conviction, the third myth of reality: Only those who seek the truth can be deceived."--Mistform Skyreaver
"Fellowship, the fourth myth of reality: As the tides of war shift, so do loyalties."--Mistform Wall
"Trust, the fifth myth of reality: Every truth holds the seed of betrayal."--Mistform Mask
This is pretty good stuff, especially the first one... Familiarity... That word has gotten me into several messes...
Anyways, today, I woke up and basically read the
Iliad. Then, in the afternoon, I made something for someone and it's supposed surprise, so I won't say any more.
Then, late at night, I returned to Berkeley.
Ah, a second boring day in a row. Lucky for me, I added that extra filler at the top.
