August 2003

First | Previous | Next | Current

Sunday, August 31, 2003--Today, I woke up and I was at home instead of at Berkeley. Of course, that's because I went home yesterday...

Anyways, I started the day by finishing up Physics and Comp Sci homework. Then, I played a bunch of FFTactics. Then, Kellie and her parents came to visit to play Mahjonng and shit like that. Then, I went online and updated my website.

Now, I'm gonna read The Iliad.

Wow... what a boring day.

Good Night!
Saturday, August 30, 2003--Alan and God are still fighting on my guestbook... I'm rooting for Alan.

Anyway, some psychopath pulled the fire alarm as we were trying to sleep last night. I almost slept through it, but Luis woke me up, because by law, we have to evacuate, so we were freezing outside, until the cops and the firefighters came to make sure there was no fire. Then, the cop lady starts yelling at us saying that it's against the law to pull fire alarms when there is no fire, and some other guy mutters that someone will get beaten up tomorrow.

Anyway, finally I wake up in the morning, and after I shower, eat breakfast, brush my teeth, and shit, I go home with my parents for the 3-day weekend. Woot!

We stopped by Hot Pot City and had some hot pot for lunch.

When I got home, I watched the game. Cal kicked Southern Miss's ass thirty-four to two! Woot!

Then, I played Tactics and ran into what's considered the toughest fight in the game, but I have a plan.

There was a party at my place, hosted by my parents for a bunch of other adults... Justin showed up and played a bunch of Smackdown and Wrestlemania. Then, Justin and I played some MTG as Connie Ho spectated.

Meh... that's all there is today. I'm feeling...

Good Night!
Friday, August 29, 2003--Help me...

The EE20N lab today was cancelled, so I didn't have any class until 2pm. Thus, I slept in until 9am.

Lunch at the Crossroads...

CS61A Lecture...

Math 54 Discussion... during this discussion, Ben, the TA, gave us some really easy problems to solve. We solved them all, so we left early.

Dinner...

I watched the fencing tournament. It was pretty interesting.

Tonight, I tested my Scion Deck against Justin's u-g madness deck. It was pretty good. I beat him 2 out of 3. The first time, I lost because I rushed into things without really thinking ahead. The second game, I won by destroying all of Justin's creatures with Grave Pact. The third game, I won by sac'ing two Rotlung Reanimators to two Dark Supplicants to get two Scions and a six 2/2 black Zombie tokens. Justin stood no chance.

Alan's "Scion" Deck is not a Scion deck because, despite what he says, it is not based on the Scion of Darkness. It is simply a mix of a whole bunch of black cards, one of which happens to include the Scion of Darkness, but the Scion is totally unnecessary in his deck. He could just as easily remove it (and the Dark Supplicants) and replace the six cards and build a better deck. (Or, he could change most of the other 52 cards in his deck and build a real Scion Deck.) I won't claim that Alan's deck is weak, but I assert that his deck is a bad deck because it doesn't do what it's supposed to do. (A deck which claims to be a Scion Deck, yet can't properly summon out the Scion of Darkness.)

Anyways, that's pretty much all that occured today. I bid you all Good Night!

"I am undeniably and irreversibly insane. Do not tempt me. This is all your fault. You revived the despised avatar of hatred that I so long ago worked to suppress. It returns now, and now, it turns on its awakener. Do not tempt me, for I am capable hatred so strong, a whisper of it could tear you apart."
Thursday, August 28, 2003--Physics 7B Lecture... Heh. I'm still using Giancoli's textbook. Hell, this one looks identical to the on Mr. Woytek uses, except it's got calculus in it. Other than that, they have the same chapters, same text, same examples, same pictures, all they did was modify a few sections to make use of calculus.

Breakfast at the Golden Bear...

Math 54 Lecture... I almost fell asleep, but I woke up when he went on tangents...

EE20N Lecture... I think the prof lady doesn't know what she's doing, but some of the students seem even more ignorant. That's just sad.

Classics 100A...

Dinner with Joyce...

CS61A Lab... I stayed behind an extra hour to finish all of my CS61A homework, and it was good.

Then, I went to the Fencing Club, where I learned some footwork and some basic attacks, but I still know no fighting skills. Heh, they have a t-shirt that says "CAL F***ING CLUB".

Heh, here on the 6th floor, we have co-ed bathrooms. It's amusing. In order to help keep logistics, Hanna and the other RAs have divided up the stalls into "Standing Stalls" and "Sitting Stalls". Heh, for us guys, the "Sitting Stalls" are synonymous with "Shitting Stalls".

Anyways, that's about it, Good Night!

And I will leave you all with one final note to ponder, and that is... "Argh! I wish that I had never met that Kim."
Wednesday, August 27, 2003--Today, I went to my real Physics 7B Lab, although we did a discussion. Ironic.

During my four hour break, I returned to the Golden Bear and had some lunchfast.

Lunch...

CS61A Lecture...

Math 54 Discussion...

Anyways, for my Greek Lit class, I've been reading Homer's Iliad. It's a very good book. I recommend it to anyone who read and enjoyed the Oddysey.

The ResComp guy finally showed up. They said they were going to fix my internet, but as of 8pm, it still hasn't been fixed. Of course, right now, it's 9pm, and I'm at the Unit 1 Computing Center. Maybe it's back up. I'll have to check.

I'm going to go ride the elevator while reading the Iliad. I'll see you all later! Good Night!
Tuesday, August 26, 2003--Today, I woke up and went to my first Physics 7B Lecture. It was... lecture-like... kind of boring. (8 am)

During by 1.5 hour break, I went to the Golden Bear Cafe and spent a meal buying two sunny-side up eggs and a bottle of chocolate milk chug, which was a good second breakfast/lunch. Heh, I call my breakfast/lunch combo... lunchfast! I had lunchfast today!

Then, I bought a gift at the Cal Student Store Gift Shop.

Then, at 11am, I went to my Math 54 lecture, during which I almost fell asleep, but didn't.

Then, at 12:30pm, I rushed to my EE20N lecture, and, according to the guy sitting next to me, this lecture has the "most personality" of all the lectures. I can tell I will have fun in this class.

During my next 1.5 hour break, I went back to the dorm and started on my homework.

Then, at 3:30pm, I went to my Greek Lit class, but on my way, I ran into Joyce, who was on her way to her Scandinavian class which is right by mine.

After being dismissed from class early, since Joyce and I had agreed to meet at 5pm in the halls to go to the Crossroads for dinner, I waited there for a few minutes for her. Then, we went to dinner at the Crossroads. Then, I had to leave to get to my Comp Sci lab.

The lab was... the most fun of all my classes, I suppose, probably because I actually did something instead of listening to people talk and talk and talk.

Anyways, upon getting back, Luis had already gotten his internet connection up, but mine wasn't fixed yet, so I spent the rest of my night in the Deutsch Computing Center, although later tonight, I will go to the Mars viewing thingie majiggy thingie.

Anyways, that's all. No dice rolls anymore. They are cancelled until I get my internet connection back.

Anyways, Good Night!
Monday, August 25, 2003--I woke up at 6:30am so I could shower and eat breakfast and all that related stuff so I could make it to my 8am Physics 7B Lab, except when I arrived, I found that nobody was there, so after waiting for 15 minutes (and talking with the 7A TA), I simply went back to my dorm.

Later, I found out that they had switched me to another Lab/Dis section so I was supposed to be at an 8am Discussion and that the Monday 8am Lab didn't exist anymore, but there was no way I could have foreseen this, and since I didn't have an internet connection, double-checking my schedule was on the lower end of the internet priority, as I didn't think they'd just pull a switcheroo on me. Oh, well. There was probably nothing I missed on my first day of Physics 7B Discussion anyway.

And this is to all you Starcraft Players out there: I have a Physics Lab. I will build some Battlecruisers and research the Yamato Gun. Beware!

During my ridiculously long break, I worked on some non-academic hobby-related stuff.

Then, after lunch, at 1pm, I went to my EE20N Discussion. Apparently, Nadia has the same Discussion group as me, but the TA never showed up, so after about 20 minutes, one guy got up to leave, and that caused a chain-reaction/domino-effect/avalanche of about half of the rest of the room getting up and leaving, including myself.

After sitting around for almost an hour, I went to my 2pm CS61A Lecture. As this is a Lecture, there was indeed something happening today. Vik, Nadia, and I sat together and formed a pact that we would help each other out in this class, although Nadia did say, "You guys will really have to help me out, since I'm retarded." You're not retarded. You just lack experience. (Incidentally, when talking about the Entrance Exam, I said I would write it in Java, Nadia said she would write it in C++, and Vik said he would write it in Scheme, just for the hell of it. That, incidentally, covers all three of the languages supported by Berkeley Comp Sci apparently...)

Apparently, the Entrance Exam was cancelled. Nadia was thrilled. I was apathetic. I was pretty sure I was going to stay in the class anyways.

At 3pm, I went to my Math 54 Discussion, where the TA introduced himself, and the students introduced themselves, and then we did some math. Apparently, I learned the most basic of the basics of Linear Algebra in MAH, although I'm pretty sure it gets more complicated than this, as it always does. The first few days of any math class is undoubtedly some kind of review.

Finally, I was free, so I made some phone calls with my ridiculous phone card (I have to dial 30+ numbers just to make a call). Then, I stopped by at the Berkeley Student Store to pick up the last three books I needed. However, they didn't have the last Comp Sci book that I needed.

Also, with Franklin always using the phone while playing Counter Strike, it makes it virtually impossible to call home when it's convenient since that goddamn Franklin's always using the phone. Goddamn it, we should put a ban on Franklin using the goddamn telephone while playing Counter Strike, or any other computer game for that matter.

Also, those guys at ResComp still haven't given me back my Internet In-Room Connection, and despite the fact that I've had my name on the ResComp Help appointment sheet for the last week, I've still heard nothing from them.

Anyways, so I did the CS reading from the book that I do have. Goddamn it, I hate Scheme already. It's technically not a programming language, just a symbolic language. I don't like it. It's no good for large scale programming projects. The book even says so itself. It's only good for theoretical purposes, just like recursion!

Anyways, I'm going to say "Good Night!" now. Right now, I'm taking the broken journal entries, bringing them on a disk to the Unit 1 Computer Center, and going online to post them up and to chat on AIM and stuff like that. I'll see you all later!

Hmm... It seems I have these journal entries in inverted order... I'll have to fix that.
Sunday, August 24, 2003--Franklin and I declined to go to our dad's real company barbeque, as we had gone for three years in a row and it had been exceptionally boring. Instead, we stayed at home. Franklin played some Gran Turismo 3. We got some lunch at Burger King. I played FF Tactics some more. Ninjas are hella good in that game. Dragoons are cool, but not so useful. Summoners are pretty damn powerful, but I like them best for the Golem summon, a powerful summon from back in the days of FF5, but the Tactics version of Golem isn't as powerful, so I have to use it more strategically rather than as an physical uber-shield.

Wow... that was all one paragraph, wasn't it? Wait... there's more...

At 3pm, I went back to Berkeley.

At dinner, I saw Joyce, who took me back to Foothill so I could play the piano for her. She likes it when I play the piano for her, and in the Foothill Rec Room, Casey Ho told me that he would be grading our CS61A Recursion Tests (Entrance Exams).

Anyways, back at Unit 1, Cheney Hall...
Ryan: Who's [AIM SN censored]?
Me: Oh, that's [name censored] up on the 7th floor.
Ryan: Dude, why don't you go up and talk to her in person instead of use Mark's computer to talk to her over AIM?

Anyways, not much else happened... Good Night!
Saturday, August 23, 2003--Our dad took us to his company barbeque today, only it was actually tomorrow. Whoops! Well, I guess I know where I inherited the "missing days" trait from.

Anyways, upon coming home, I played a lot of FF Tactics. It really is a fun game. That and I won't have time to play it here at college despite my overwhelming amounts of free time. (Well, at least I have Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne and FF7 to replay at a lower level.)

Lastly, Good Night! I go back to Berkeley tomorrow, and classes begin Monday.
Friday, August 22, 2003--This journal entry was actually written on Monday, August 25, as I was at home playing FF Tactics so much that I simply neglected to update my journal.

Anyways, today, my parents came to visit me, and I thought I'd go home for the weekend. First, we went to buy all my school books, but there were 3 books that I couldn't find at Ned's--two Classics books and one Comp Sci book. Then, we went to dinner at Cupertino Village. Then, we went home.

I played FF Tactics a whole bunch. By now, I've already developed quite a nasty system that's super-efficient at building hella good characters in the minimum amount of time and levelling. Also, I went online to post Dark Fiends Chapter 45, but neglected to update my journal, again.

Anyways, that's it for tonight. Good Night! I'll see you some other day.
Thursday, August 21, 2003--The internet is still down. Argh!

What's funny is that by the time you read this, my internet will be back up. Ironic.

Anyways, I went to Calapalooza and signed up for the Asian American Association (the president of which is apparently Misha's big brother) and the Fencing Club. I was hanging out with Mark, Ryan, and their friend Kevin (who's roommate Jonathon I had met at breakfast today), and I also saw Joyce there, in addition to a bunch of Leland people including but not limited to Amy, Vik, Victor, Sina, and Casey. However, it seems that nobody has seen Christine Wu at all.

After the Calapalooza (during which I got free lunch), I went to the reception at the Chancellor's House (aka, the University House). (Of course, not right away. I spent some time in the room in between.) At the reception, the RHA President was telling us to talk to hobos. I also met this really young-looking girl named Kim. She looks like a high school sophomore, but she's actually a college freshman.

After eating dinner at the Crossroads with Mark and Ryan, I went to the game of LIFE with the Health Workers at Cheney Hall, where again, I saw Kim. The Cheney Team got third place, but we still won more than enough candy, which Mark and I frantically tried to give away.

Anyways, I really have nothing to do right now. I've started watching WWE Smackdown again for no reason other than I have nothing better to do and watch. Actually, it's really more of running in the background as I type on the computer. I'm only pseudo-watching it.

Anyways, Good Night!
Wednesday, August 20, 2003--The real College of Engineering orientation was today. There, I saw Nadia, Amy, and Nisha, in that order, as well as a bunch of people I haven't met yet. There were a bunch of speakers giving informative talks, followed by departmental orientations where they gave us academic advice &c. Then, we had lunch. Then, there was a meeting with the advisors that was mostly pointless.

Anyways, my internet connection is still down. Heh, it's only been one day, but it feels like it's been so many. I signed up for the ResComp help today. Later, Luis told me that ResComp told him that there was a virus on my comp, so I had to be disconnected from the internet. That sucked.

So then, I went on a mission to clear my computer of viruses. First of all, Symantec found the Backdoor.Trojan, which was masquerading as a Windows system file. Unfortunately, since it was masquerading as a Windows system file, it couldn't be deleted, so I had to go online and search for the Symantec info on Backdoor.Trojan so that I could find a way to delete it manually, and so I did.

Then, I encountered a second problem. As Windows technology advances, Microsoft is making it harder and harder to delete files. First, they came up with the Recycling Bin, so that you'd have to delete a file twice before it's finally gone. Now, they have what's called "System Restore", which is mostly invisible, but it acts as a Deleted File Graveyard from which deleted files can spontaneously come back from the dead. It's pretty bad. Most of my deleted viruses still hung out in there, and since Microsoft has hella high protection on the _RESTORE folder, it was nearly impossible to get rid of them.

You know what? This is ridiculous! I thought the purpose of deleting files was to get rid of them for good. Now, Windows is coming up with anti-deletion?!? (My first hint was when McAfee used to offer to "shred" the Recycling Bin rather than simply emptying it.) Good riddance. I'm glad I've disabled it. It doesn't make my computer weaker, but stronger. A deleted file should be gone for good. A Recycling Bin is good for one level of backup, but having a nearly invincible _RESTORE system? No, thank you.

Anyway, after doing more research on the internet, I found out how to turn off _RESTORE, remove the protection, and wipe out my viruses. Heh, what's most amazing that in doing so, I freed up over 4 Gigabytes of disk space. Jesus fucking shit. Stupid Microsoft and their anti-deletion. Obviously, the newer Windows computers were designed for idiots. (As opposed to Apple computers, which are designed for even dumber idiots to such an extent that it's nearly impossible to to any high-level computer work on them. To do high-level computer work, most guys recommend Linux...)

Anyways, I hope my computer is finally virus free, because I want to get my internet connection back up.

As a last note, Dark Fiends Chapter 45 would have been up today (it's finished already) if it weren't for Berkeley shutting me down. Ah, well. It'll be up as soon as I get my internet connection back.

Anyways, again, since there is no internet, there is no dice roll. Good Night!
Tuesday, August 19, 2003--Silly me... The College of Engineering orientation is tomorrow, but for some reason, I thought it was today, so I took a walk across campus. It wasn't that big a waste. I proved that you can walk across the campus in only 10 minutes, which is good. That means I have plenty of time to get to my back-to-back classes.

Smoothies were at 11am. They were all right.

Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne...

I had dinner with a whole bunch of people, including the three girls from across the hall...

I put up Dark Fiends Chapter 44 today.

Tonight was Casino Night here at Unit 1. I lost all my "money" playing Blackjack. Oh, well.

Anyways, at about 10:45 at night, a whole bunch of us gathered in the hall and decided to go "do something spontaneous" [quote Tiffany]. We ended up wandering the streets hopping from party to party. Then, we came back to the dorms and watched some TV in the Cheney Lounge, when suddenly, a Child Abduction Warning took over all 80+ channels, so we decided to go back to our dorms, at last.

*yawn* By the time I got back, the Internet was down, so you'll only see a partial entry for today. Since the Internet is down, there will be no dice roll. So, Good Night!
Monday, August 18, 2003--Today, I set up my Berkeley In-Room [Internet] Connection, so now I can surf the internet. After lunch, I bought an ethernet cable to hook myself up to the Internet. Then, I set up my phone. If you want to call me... hmmm... actually, IM me for my phone #.

For dinner, we had to go to a Student Convocation for new students, where I heard a lot of speeches from the University leaders, including the Chancellor.

Damn, there are more freshman here at Berkeley than there are people at Leland. That's how big the school is. It's huge.

Anyways, on my way to dinner, I was like, "There are so many people here. I'll never find Joyce... Hey, wait a minute... It's Joyce!" Yeah, so I ran into Joyce during dinner.

Right now, my room is a mess of wires and cables. Everything is in the most inconvenient places. The power outlets are under my bed and behind the drawer, and the Ethernet jack is behind a desk. Right now, the wire connecting the TV to the stereo is blocking the door, but it's all good. Stacy from right across the hall came to watch TV with us.

Anyways, I ran into Vincy Li from SJYS. Apparently, she lives one floor up. I'll be sure to visit her sometime.

At 8pm, it was Karaoke night, which was pretty bad. I left after one song, which was a Britney Spears song.

Also, I downloaded a new Anti-Virus from the Berkeley Website. Heh, w32.stator worm? I thought I got rid of that. Apparently, Symantec Anti-Virus is much better than McAfee.

That's pretty much all I can remember...

I spent so much time on AIM today...

Anyways, dice roll!

Dice Roll of the Day: 5 + 1 = 6

Anyways, that's about it. Good Night!
Sunday, August 17, 2003--I moved into Berkeley today. It took forever, waiting for a cart, then waiting for an elevator, then waiting for my mom who insisted on arranging all the stuff in my room despite my insisting that I could always find stuff as I needed them, because otherwise, I don't know where anything is because it's not in any of my boxes.

Anyways, when I finally moved in, I set up my computer. Then, there was a dorm meeting and a floor meeting that I had to go to.

Berkeley's an interesting place. The room is small, but decent, and my roommate, Luis, is a really cool kid. He brought a TV and a stereo.

Anyways, no dice roll tonight.

I played some Frozen Throne today, also.

Ah, anyways, Good Night!
Saturday, August 16, 2003--Perhaps the only reason why my entries are getting shorter is because it's been four days and I just want to get these entries done. Unfortunately, it doesn't work the same with Dark Fiends. With each of those chapters, I have to put a lot of thought into them--at least a good day and a half.

Anyways, after watching Franklin play FFTactics, we went to Boston Market for lunch. Then, we went to Bernard and Kellie's place, where apparently, their parents were throwing a farewell dinner for me. The food wasn't all that great, but it got me away from the PS2 long enough for me to come online.

As of now, another guest has shown up. Kellie's friend Wendy and her sisters (whose last name I know not...).

Anyways, tomorrow, for Berkeley's move-in day, I'll be wearing my new shirt, new pants, new shoes, new backpack with a new binder to move in to my new school and new living quarters. It's like tomorrow is New Day. (Incidentally, New Day is an anagram for Dwayne, as I'm sure I've pointed out already. My dad says we should register for NewDay.com, although I get the feeling that it's already been taken. I'll have to check, though.)

There will probably some downtime before I get my internet connection hooked up again, so until then, I bid you Farewell and Good Night!
Friday, August 15, 2003--FFTactics is a really fun game, especially if your just starting to play it. I was playing it the whole day today, I do believe, stopping only to play the piano--my other #1 hobby.

Heh, today's entry is even shorter than yesterday's. Good Night!
Thursday, August 14, 2003--Amazing! I spent virtually the whole day playing FFTactics. By the way, I don't feel like posting up plot spoilers or progress reports of the game. I've been playing so much that it's all a jumble in my head.

I also watched SWAT today. It was all right, but the story was way too predictable. Anyone with a decent amount of brains could have predicted the events of the end of the movie not too long into the movie.

Heh... short entry today. Is this journal degenerating, or is it simply going through the natural cycle of lots of stuff-very little stuff.

Anyways, Good Night!
Wednesday, August 13, 2003--My 18th Birthday!!!

Sorry I haven't been online for a while. I've been having too much fun playing with birthday gifts (actually, just Final Fantasy Tactics).

Anyway, I don't remember what happened today before my birthday. Probably nothing, actually. At the opening of my party, there was an MTG Tournament. In the first round, I was eliminated by Justin's u-g madness deck because I couldn't get my Death Sliver engine working properly. Alan was eliminated by Ryan's black control deck. (Of course, with 5 players in this tournament, the elimination tree looked kind of weird). Franklin, with his his lack of permanents, had to sac a lot of lands to Ryan's deck in the next round and, thus, lost. Then, Ryan played against Justin and lost, making Justin the champion. However, it was still a very good show for Ryan because he had never tested that black control deck before. A completely untested deck making it to the finals? That really means something.

What I want to know is why everyone is afraid of Ryan's creature deck. As I've often been told, creature-heavy decks aren't as powerful as creature-lite decks. In fact, most of the decks at the MTG World Championships barely had any creatures.

We also played lots of Bomberman, where all the rounds were won by Franklin, and DOA2, with Franklin and Ryan against me and Johnny. I think Frank and Ryan won most of the rounds. Franklin and I were playing with random characters.

Anyway, I got The Frozen Throne, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Onimusha 2 for my birthday. I played lots of FFTactics. It's a really good game. Job System, yo! Heh, I didn't think Franklin would like it (he hated FF5's Job System), but apparently, he likes Tactics' battle system.

Anyways, that's about... everything that I can remember.

Good Night!
Tuesday, August 12, 2003--Tomorrow...

I went to Superstars today to buy a whole bunch of cards for my new and improved Death Slivers deck.

After that, it was a lot of deck playtesting.

There's not much more to say, except that I bought my brother's 3 SNES games off him for $10 as I am taking the SNES to Berkeley with me. Woohoo!

Now... dice roll time!

Dice Roll of the Day: 6 + 1 = 7

Anyways, Good Night! Perhaps I'll see you tomorrow, and everything will be good... good indeed!
Monday, August 11, 2003--2 more days...

*yawn*

I'll start out the day with an edited AIM conversation I had this evening (edited to protect the privacy of the other person involved--the primary meaning and impact have not been changed).
Viltris: in my experience, the girls with boyfriends always seem more flirtatious
Viltris: i dunno why
S: ...
S: thats weird, this guy at my community service said like the exact same thing to me awhile ago
Viltris: *shrig* maybe they are
S: i dunno..i dont really notice flirtyness
S: although accordin to certain people i'm flirty
S: -_____-

Poor girl...

Anyways, I'm trying to recall what happened to day. Well, I got up Dark Fiends Chapter 43, but not much else happened.

I have been looking at a lot of MTG stuff.

Anyways, dice roll time!

Dice Roll of the Day: 5 + 5 = 10

Future poll: Are girls with boyfriends more or less flirtatious?

That's about it. Good Night!
Sunday, August 10, 2003--3 more days...

Today, I woke up at 7am and watched part of the MTG Finals Semifinals (there was the Team Draft Booster Drafting between the Quarterfinals last night and the Semifinals) and saw Jin Okamoto beat Tuomo Nieminen. Then, I went back to bed.

Then, I woke up at 10am and watched the Finals between Daniel Zink and Jin Okamoto (the Team Draft games were in between). Daniel Zink barely won the first game, and he beat Okamoto the second and third games with heavy creature combat--mostly Anurid Brushhoppers and Exalted Angels. It was amusing.

Anyway, I can't think of much else that happened today. Oh, well, let's just start the dice-roll festivities.

Dice Roll of the Day: 3 + 5 = 8

Ahh... that is all.

Whoa! Deja vu.

Good Night!
Saturday, August 9, 2003--4 more days...

Today, I went to a booster draft with Daniel Hedayati (whose initials incidentally spell "DOH"), Jon Zamoyski, Alan, and 3 other guys I'm not familiar with, but apparently, their names are Joey, Pat, and Cameron.

Anyway, when I was drafting, the first card I grabbed was an foil Innocent Blood (because there was nothing better in that booster), so I decided to play black. Then, after about 5 or so picks, I added white into the mix. Then, a couple of picks into the second booster, I realized that black wouldn't do and started drafting blue instead.

Anyways, the rares I got included Phantom Nishoba, Cunning Wish, Terravore, Iridescent Angel, Nefarious Lich, and Graceful Antelope. I made a blue-white Air Force deck with cantrips and tapping.

In the first round, I was to play against Alan. The first game was very close. Toward the end, I attacked for what would have been lethal damage. Alan had no hand and no mana, but I overlooked his graveyard, which had a Prismatic Strands he could untap, thereby saving my save. Then, I lost, fog style, when Alan attacked with everything (I had mostly tapped out for my last attack) and killed me.

In my second game, Alan was mana screwed and I beat him easily.

In the third game, it was a very close game. Lots of people thought I was going to win. Toward the end, I brought Alan down to 3, and I had 10 Life. Then, he pumped up all his white creatures with a white enchantment, and attacked with everything. Without that enchantment, I would have survived. With the enchantment, it did 11 damage, just barely enough to kill me. This reminded me of the time when my Sliver faction could kill in two turns, so I attacked with everything. Justin then played a Goblin King, doubling the size of all his goblins and attacking me for what had suddenly become lethal damage.

Anyways, Jon thought I would have won, but he wanted Alan to win, because my deck was flying heavy and his deck had very little, if any, anti-air support. Fortunately, Alan narrowly defeated me so Jon could cream him. Then, he automatically forfeited the finals because he knew couldn't beat Daniel, one of the best MTG players to ever come through Leland.

Later, I traded my Antelope, my Cunning Wish, and my Terravore to Daniel for the surviving members of his sliver collection and a pair of Heartstones. Hmm... I think what I gave him is worth slightly more than what he gave me, but I wanted the slivers more than those rares, so I guess it turned out all right.

At home, I traded the Angel to Franklin for a Thran Quarry and some money.

Heh, today was very magic heavy. After playing against Franklin some, I watched the MTG World Championships on the live Webfeed, starting at midnight.

I got to see live as Tuomo Nieminen cycled Decree of Justice for 14 soldier tokens and declared, "I attack you for 28," and defeat Gabe Walls. I also saw live Wolfgang Eder make a mistake and burn an Aquamoeba for 2 at the wrong time, opening himself up to David Humphreys for the win.

At the end of round one, my computer crashed and I took this as an omen to go to bed, but before we do, let's do the dice roll!

Dice Roll of the Day: 3 + 4 = 7

Ahh... that is all. Good Night!
Friday, August 8, 2003--5 more days...

Today wasn't very eventful. I think the only thing worth mentioning is that I put up Dark Fiends Chapter 42.

And now, to skip directly to the dice roll!

Dice Roll of the Day: 1 + 2 = 3

Different roll, same result. Heh.

Anyways, Good Night!
Thursday, August 7, 2003--6 more days...

Today, I had an appointment with the oral surgeon to check up on my healing, and I'm healing up quite well. In fact, I'm practically done recovering. There was no visible swelling and barely any pain. I think it was because of the ice treatment I was doing the first day. It really helps!

Anyways, Dark Fiends Chapter 41 is up.

I've decided that for my future, I don't just want to build a robot. I want to build a robot that looks like and acts like a real human being. I don't know if I'll actually build one, but I'm sure as hell going to try, starting with the AI.

Hmmm... Dice-roll!

Dice Roll of the Day: 2 + 1 = 3

Anyways, Good Night!
Wednesday, August 6, 2003--7 more days...

Today, Franklin woke me up at 8am in the morning to go play basketball and tennis with him. Ech... it wasn't too bad. Actually, for about half an hour, he hit tennis balls against the wall while I shot some hoops. I've gotten a lot more accurate...

Anyway, then, I play against Franklin 1v1, and I beat him 10 to 0. The last shot I made was from the free throw line. I just shoot, and it just goes right in, and Franklin's like "Whoa!" Heh, Franklin's got more dexterity and more energy than me. He has better ground-work, better ball-control, and he's good at stealing. However, I have the shooting advantage. I'm a lot stronger and more accurate, and I'm taller, and that's probably the only reason I won today. Against anyone of my own height, I probably would have been creamed... with a couple of exceptions.

Anyways, Franklin and I traded in Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness, which sucked, for NCAA Football, which was so realistic that it wasn't very fun. NFL Blitz is a better football game.

The roll of the dice...

Dice Roll of the Day: 2 + 1 = 3

*yawn*That's about it. Good Night!
Tuesday, August 5, 2003--8 more days...

Lunch was at Fresh Choice today. It was... fresh.

Also, I played FF1.

*1*I ventured further into the Temple of Chaos. Apparently, I have to go up to the third floor, use the Lute to open a passageway, and go down to the basements, fight Lich again on the first basement, fight Marilith on the second basement, fight Kraken on the third basement, fight Tiamat on the fourth basement, and meet the final boss on the fifth basement. I got as far as Kraken, then ran out of supplies and had to go back.

Unfortunately, the Fiends in the Temple of Chaos of the past use the "spiked-square" method, so even though I beat them, I have to fight them again if I want to get through.
*1*

Also, I put up Dark Fiends Chapter 40 and made a variant of my Sliver deck called Death Slivers. The Death Slivers are, apparently, more powerful than my regular Slivers and much more deadly. I'm going to actually try and build this deck now.

Ah, that seems to be it for today. I will now roll dice.

Dice Roll of the Day: 2 + 1 = 3

Ah, Good Night!
Monday, August 4, 2003--9 more days...

Today, I spent a couple of hours preparing my Original Piece in MIDI format for my Music Page. It sounds decent, but not as good as when I play it on the piano, except it's more consistent and will never make a mistake. I recommend you listen to it. Be warned, it's really quiet. I made it as loud as I could, but MIDI pianos are really quiet.

I also played quite a lot of FF1.

*1*I went up the last two floors of the Flying Fortress and found and defeated Tiamat, the Fiend of the Air. Now that the four Crystals have been restored, I went to Crescent to the twelve sages to ask what the problem was.

They told me that someone had used the Temple of Chaos (where the energy of the four Crystals was flowing) to go 2000 years back in time to send the Fiends of Chaos to the present to wreak havoc on the world so that they could get the energy of the Crystals and send it back to the past so that he could be strong enough to send them into the future. Basically, he created an ugly time-loop of destruction, and now I have to go to the Temple of Chaos to stop him.

So I went to the Temple of Chaos, and there were 5 bats in there. Those were the guys from Leifin who went to try to stop Tiamat but were turned into bats. Anyways, I explore part of the Temple of Chaos, but I had to go back since I ran out of supplies. I'll finish this later.
*1*

Dice roll time!

Dice Roll of the Day: 2 + 4 = 6

Hmm... Okay... Hi!

Good Night!
Sunday, August 3, 2003--10 more days...

Today, I got a haircut.

Also, when we went to lunch at KFC...
Me: I'll have some boneless chicken strips.
Mom: *when the order arrives* I think those chicken strips might be a little too hard for you.
Me: *without waiting for her to finish, I bite off and eat a piece of the chicken* What?
Mom: Never mind.

Friday night, I had a weird dream. I was sitting in a classroom, and there were only 3 desks, and I sat in the middle. Kristen Kurimoto sat on my right, and Brian King sat on my left. Maybe it wasn't Brian, maybe it was just some random generic dude, my memory's a little fuzzy, but I do remember for certain that Kristen was to my right. For some reason, Kristen was really upset at the guy, so she kept sliding me and my desk aside so she could attack him, but the guy kept sliding me back to block her way. It was weird. I have still yet to e-mail Kristen...

Anyways, after lunch at KFC, we watched Tomb Raider 2, which I think was worse than the first one. The fight scenes were a lot less impressive, The storyline was a lot sloppier, and that Terry Sheridan character was just irritating.

After that, I put up Dark Fiends Chapter 39.

*yawn* I'm getting tired. Oh, and visit the Goofy Image Gallery. It's hilarious!

Dice roll of the day!

Dice Roll of the Day: 2 + 1 = 3

I was talking to Connie on AIM a while ago. She seemed... pleased...

I really miss her...

Anyways... Good Night...
Saturday, August 2, 2003--11 more days...

Apparently, God lives in my guestbook, and he's a little upset that I deleted all his real posts and kept his fake ones. Hey, I said I was keeping the most interesting posts, and it just so happens that the fake one is far more amusing that any of the real ones.

Anyways, after I woke up today, I worked a lot on Dark Fiends and managed to get up Dark Fiends Chapter 38. Not much else happened today, though.

Today is the third day of recovery from my operation. They said it would be the worst and my face would be swelling, but there's barely any swelling on my face and I feel perfectly fine. What the heck? Am I off by a day or something?

Anyways, dice roll time!

Dice Roll of the Day: 2 + 1 = 3

I really ought to get to sleep tonight. Maybe I should take some elixir while I'm at it?

Anyways, Good Night!
Friday, August 1, 2003--12 more days...

Anyways, today, I woke up and played the piano. Then, I played FF2.

*2*I fought my way up Castle Fynn today, but I took a wrong turn and ended up in the Hall of the Mirror, which I had no idea what to do. Then, I fought my way to the throne room, where I defeated an Imperial Commander named Gottos. Now, the castle belongs to the rebels again.

Princess Hilda is worried about Mindu, who went to look for the Ultima Scroll in Mysidia but never returned. Apparently, I'll need the Black and White Masks to get into Mysidia's tower. The White Mask is in a secret area in the castle, but Hilda doesn't know where, but Gordon suggested that I ask Pavel, the thief, and Pavel knew. I'm about to head into the basement of the Castle to pick up that White Mask now, but I'll do that some other day.

This is just a guess, but maybe if I put the White Mask up to the Fynn Mirror, the Black Mask will come out?
*2*

Dark Fiends Chapter 38 will be up tomorrow.

Time to roll the dice!

Dice Roll of the Day: 1 + 6 = 7

I took some Elixir, so I'll be going to sleep soon. Good Night!
