June 2007

Saturday, June 30, 2007--Apparently, Sims 2 is also really addictive. D'oh!
Friday, June 29, 2007--After a productive day at work, I went home, and... Okay, this is what I get when I leave an entry unfinished in mid-sentence. I totally forgot!
Thursday, June 28, 2007--Today, I decided to google search the FF7ac soundtrack. Apparently, it's surprisingly easy to find.

I don't like it that much, though. It's all right for the background music of a movie, but not very fitting as video game music. (Which makes sense, 'cause FF7ac was a movie and not a video game.) The only tracks I liked were the Piano version of the battle theme, J-E-N-O-V-A, and the new One-Winged Angel.

On this day:
In 2006: I beat Disgaea for the first time.

Wednesday, June 27, 2007--There was a team BBQ today, so naturally, I didn't get any work done, and I ended up going home at about 6pm. Since I had plenty of time to play, I decided to play Oblivion, but first, I told Kellie to IM me repeatedly before she goes to sleep so that I'll know to stop playing.

So yeah. I did the sidequest in Skingrad with Glarthir, the paranoid little wood elf. Silly little wood elf.

On this day:
In 2005: I met The Man at Dixie's BBQ.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007--Today, I didn't play Oblivion, because I know that once I start, I won't be able to stop. That and, there's a team BBQ tomorrow, and I don't want to oversleep and miss it, so I knew I had to sleep early so I could wake up in time for it.
Monday, June 25, 2007--After work, since I really didn't like the levelling system (too easy to gimp your character if you don't know what you're doing), and since I really didn't like how enemies levelled up with (it brought back horrible memories of FF8), so I downloaded two mods to correct the problem: the Balor/Vehem levelling mod and Francesco's mod. Then, I restarted my Dark Elf Heavy Ranger, slid the difficulty slider back to the middle, and now the game is fun again.

It's still incredibly addictive, though. I started playing at 10pm, and I said to myself, I'll just play for a few hours and go to sleep at midnight.

At midnight, I was like, wow, I didn't get to do that much. I'll just play for another hour, then go to sleep.

At 1am, I was like, okay, just lemme finish this quest, and then I'll go to sleep.

By the time I'm done with the quest, it's 3:30am, and I'm like, aww crap!

But yeah, I escaped the initial prison, fought a few battles in the Arena, and did the sidequest with Thoronir and the grave robber. I like how the grave robber had an enchanted sword and no armor, while his ally had heavy armor and an okay 2-handed sword. So I summoned my ghost while fending off attacks from the armored guy. Then suddenly, I get a message that the grave robber has died, so I go over, take his sword, and use it to finish off the armored guy. Now I have a shiny new sword and shiny new armor.

On this day:
In 2005: I buy my first pair of earphones.
In 2003: The SJYS Japan Tour begins.

Sunday, June 24, 2007--Today, I started playing Oblivion. I created a female Dark Elf warrior/archer hybrid wearing heavy armor (I called the custom character class "Heavy Ranger"). Being the newbite that I am, I set the difficulty slider all the way down to the bottom, which made the game stupidly easy (easier than playing with the EZ Gun in MGS3).

Oblivion is addictive, too. I ended up staying up until 4am playing it. D'oh!
Saturday, June 23, 2007--Today, I went to the store and picked up The Sims 2 and Oblivion. The Sims 2 is surprisingly addictive. (Prolly because it's essentially Sims 1 and all of its expansions combined + even more new features.) I made a custom family based on Laharl, Flonne, and Etna (although none of them look anything like their Disgaea counterparts, mainly because it's hard to make anime-style characters), and I ended up staying up until 6am playing The Sims 2. D'oh!

On this day:
In 2004:
Viltris: k, plan B
Viltris: i can poke you
Viltris: *poke*poke*
[Kim]: eh...not very nice plan...i don't like getting poked
[Kim]: *stab*

Friday, June 22, 2007--After work, I returned to Uncle's Games at Crossroads Mall Bellevue to play a Time Spiral Block Constructed Tournament. Once again, I brought my White-splash-red-black Sliver Deck (now named Infested Terran).

So I get the first round bye, which gives me time to get some dinner. Record: 1-0

In round 2, I play against Andrew H, who's running a red-blue aggro deck. In game 1, I didn't commit enough slivers to the board, and as a result, got run over. In game 2, Andrew was simply faster than me, allowing him to win. Record: 1-1

In round 3, I played against Darren, who was piloting a mono-blue aggro deck. The creatures in the deck were pretty small and fragile, and they weren't exactly fast. However, every single creature he had had evasion, which means we were basically playing who dies first (give or take a few kill cards). Fortunately, I was able to defeat him on time. Record: 2-1

In the final round, I played against Paul, who had defeated Andrew H. Knowing this, I reasoned that if I was able to beat Paul, I would end up with a pretty good rank. In game 1, I kept a hand that I prolly shouldn't have kept and ended up not having enough mana to play the game. In games 2 and 3, however, my deck performed absolutely beautifully. I was able to build up powerful armies of slivers that Paul simply could not deal with, and I tore him apart pretty quickly. I was also reminded of just how good Pulmonic Sliver was. Record: 3-1

As a result, I won an unprecedented first place. I'll be honest, I knew it was possible if I beat Paul, given that I would be tied for first place. However, I was quite surprised that my tiebreakers aligned to make me first place, especially since I was running a tier 2 sliver deck.

Anyways, I won 5 booster packs, 2 Planar Chaos and 3 Future Sight. Interesting cards include a foil Body Double, Heroes Remembered, Fungal Behemoth, Molten Firebird, Seht's Tiger, a foil Lumithread Field, Coalition Relic, and a Thunderblade Charge.

I will not rest on my laurels, however. There are still a few improvements I need to make to my deck. In particular, I don't really have trouble with card drawing, but I do occasionally have trouble dealing with creatures, so I'm removing the 3 Browbeats for 3 Sudden Shocks. Also, my deck's mana curve is a little high, and the 2 Spitting Slivers aren't really pulling their weight (often, I draw a Spitting Sliver when I don't have enough mana, and I say, man, I wish I had a cheaper sliver--we'll see if the opposite ever happens), so I'm cutting them in favor of cheap 1-drop Sidewinder Slivers. I figure if I had 1-drops, I should try to get at least 3 of them, so I cut one of my 4 Essence Slivers for a 3rd Sidewinder Sliver.

I like the Essence Slivers, though. Unfortunately, I just don't have the room. I still have 2 Watcher Slivers that are now at the bottom of the barrel. I may end up cutting them for a 4th Essence Sliver and a 4th Sidewinder Sliver at a later date if the Watcher Slivers aren't pulling their weight.

Anyways, the next Block Constructed tournament is in a month. If I'm lucky, I'll have more opportunities to playtest before then.
Thursday, June 21, 2007--Today is the Summer Solstice, aka, the longest day of the year. We had a 9:11pm sunset here in Redmond. (As opposed to an 8:31pm sunset in Almaden.) Including the twilight effect, there was light outside until about 9:40pm.

On this day:
In 2005: I injure my wrist making a bad saber parry-riposte.
In 2004: Lei says "Eh?"

Wednesday, June 20, 2007--Today, the rest of my computer arrived, so I stayed up until 4am in the morning building her and installing Vista Ultimate and drivers. I named her Aria. She's beautiful.

On this day:
In 2004: I beat Xenosaga... and I give it a bad review... because it sucks!

Tuesday, June 19, 2007--My 20 inch 1600x1200 monitor arrived today (as well as the case). Since my computer hadn't arrived yet, I decided to plug it into my laptop and dualscreen for a while.

I had a little misstep, though. Apparently, aside from the power button, there was a master power switch that I hadn't noticed. As a result, I was wondering why I had 2 million dead pixels, when in fact, the monitor simply wasn't getting power.

On this day:
In 2004: I buy my first saber.

Monday, June 18, 2007--Hi ho, hi ho, it's back to work I go!

On this day:
In 2005: I beat MGS3.
In 2004:

Sunday, June 17, 2007--Today, for some strange reason, I was inspired to write a song. So I did. And then, for another strange reason, I was inspired to go get better MIDI software. So I did. And now, I have some pretty kickass software to make my MIDIs sound more awesome than ever before. Of course, since MIDI is essentially sheet music for computers, you won't be able to hear the awesomeness if you don't have the right SoundFonts. Unless, of course, I record it to an mp3. Which I did.

If you'd like to hear the comparison, IM me!
Saturday, June 16, 2007--Is nondescript a word?
Friday, June 15, 2007--I called Little Vivian today for the first time ever. We talked for about 5 minutes (which is a lot for me). She makes me happy.

On this day:
In 2005: I get my first paycheck ever.
In 2003: Lizzie decides to talk to me for once.

Thursday, June 14, 2007--These last few entries remind me of June 2005, when nothing much happened, and I wrote boring entry after boring entry. Except that month, nothing actually did happen. I'm not sure about this month. I prolly just don't remember enough.

On this day:
In 2005:
me: and college will be new and exciting for you
me: except that all your friends will be there
me: all your friends and me
vivchu: haha
vivchu: silly, you're a friend, too =p

Wednesday, June 13, 2007--Today is Wednesday the 13th! ...that doesn't help, though.
Tuesday, June 12, 2007--I have nothing to say to you. Not because I don't like you, but because I can't think of anything to say.

On this day:
In 2005: I beat Xenosaga 2... it sucked.

Monday, June 11, 2007--I got a webcam today.

My original rationale was, there are lots of people back in Cali that I don't get to see anymore. Except that now that I have a webcam, I do get to see them. Or something like that.

Hurray for video chat!
Sunday, June 10, 2007--Was it a sunny day this lovely Sunday? I don't remember.
Saturday, June 9, 2007--Either that, or someone's birthday was today.

On this day:
In 2005: Feng makes her first appearance on my bloop.

Anyway, I meant to go to the M:tG Regional Championships today, but I fell ill and took it as a sign from above that I wasn't meant to play today.
Friday, June 8, 2007--I think it's someone's birthday today, but I might just be confused.

On this day:
In 2004:

Thursday, June 7, 2007--What's your favorite color?
Wednesday, June 6, 2007--It's the neighbor of the beast across the street... or something like that.
Tuesday, June 5, 2007--Happy Birthday to Tracy!

After work today, I did another draft with the guys in the Cafe 16/17. Unfortunately, my memory is very frazzled. All I truly remember is that I ended up playing a classic red-black deck.
9xMountain
8xSwamp
Goblin Skycutter
2xSimian Spirit Guide
Ironclaw Buzzardiers
Orcish Cannonade
5xHenchfiend of Ukor
Pyrohemia
Keldon Halberdier
Molten Disaster
Pit Keeper
Rathi Trapper
Deadly Grub
Deepcavern Imp
2xMelancholy
Strangling Soot
Assassinate
2xMass of Ghouls

Heh, my deck has five Henchfiends of Ukor. If I added 20 cards, it wouldn't be Standard legal.

Also, I had a Mystic Enforcer, but it totally wasn't in my colors.

Highlights of the night:
Monday, June 4, 2007--I really don't remember. Leave me alone.

On this day:
In 2003: "Anyways, lately I've been thinking of cute left-handed girls. You know, 1 in 10 people are left-handed, and 1/2 of all people are girls, so 1 in every 20 people is a left-handed girl. Add in that any given girl has a 1 in 50 chance of being cute, so overall, there's a 1 in 1000 chance that any given person is a cute left-handed girl. ... Lucky for me, I know quite a few."

Sunday, June 3, 2007--9pm sunset today! w00t!

On this day: In 2004: I beat FFTA.

Saturday, June 2, 2007--Again with the I can't remember.

Dood, I think I said that before.

On this day:
In 2005: Chao makes his first appearance on my bloop.
In 2003:
Justin: What? You couldn't find your PENIS?
Me: I couldn't find my KEYS! What? Are you death or something?
Justin: What? Am I DEATH?
Me: I said DEAF, not DEATH.
Justin: Oh, my bad.
Me: Naw, I really said death. Just kidding with you, that's all.

Friday, June 1, 2007--Again with the I can't remember.
