Monday, April 30, 2007--I bought a vacuum cleaner today. It sucks.
Sunday, April 29, 2007--I spent most of today playing more Phantom Brave. I cleared Chapter 9, then decided to level up some of my items due to a breakthrough with levelling and Blacksmiths. Unfortunately, at that point, it became so mana intensive that I just decided to continue on with the story.
Saturday, April 28, 2007--Today, I played some more Phantom Brave and cleared chapter 8 and half of chapter 9. I also re-arranged some of the titles on my characters and items to make my team more powerful.
On this day:
In 2003:

You know what I need?
Friday, April 27, 2007--I've had such a long week of work that I didn't realize it was the weekend until I was eating dinner. Hehe, d'oh! Well, at least it'll get better after this. And then it'll get worse, but it won't be as bad.
On this day:
In 2003: I tear my arm opn on a Soda Fountain.
Also, I finally picked up those prize boosters from the
booster draft in which I got the third round bye
and won third place. I had two boosters. Included in them were another
Shivan Meteor, a Groundbreaker, a Fatal Frenzy, and a Body Double.
Thursday, April 26, 2007--If you're going to pwn somebody in the future, is it called "postPWNed"?
On this day:

Also, gym.
Wednesday, April 25, 2007--Oh crap! I missed

On this day:
In 2004: I'm Heena's first victim for the Indian Dance.
In 2003:
- Alan builds a deck with barely any land, lots of blue instants, 4 Cognivores, for a total of 180 cards.
- I beat it using Infinite Slivers (well, technically, I was one turn away... I had Heartstone, Ashnod's Altar, and a Riptide Shapeshifter in play). This is the second time I used Infinite Slivers.
Little Vivian is so kyoot!
Saturday, April 21, 2007--For some odd reason, even though I meant to go to sleep early yesterday, I managed to stay up until 3am. And for some reason, even though I meant to wake up early so I could go to the
Future Sight Prerelease, I ended up waking up at 10:30am and arrived at the prerelease at 12:30pm. Unfortunately, because all the rooms were full, they wouldn't be taking registrations for Flight 5 until 2:30pm, so I had a lot of time to kill.
I was informed by Ian that, apparently, last night, even though I got the third round bye, I still managed to win 3rd place. How odd. Anyways, I have to go pick up my prize boosters eventually.
Anyways, when the sealed deck event finally started, I noticed I had strong cards in all three of red, black, and blue. Incidentally, I also had a Sol'kanar the Swamp King, who is red, black, and blue. So I decided to build a red, black, and blue deck. Unfortunately, I had trouble deciding which of the cards of the three colors I wanted to include, so I decided to go with what I was more familiar with and play red-black with a splash of blue. Here's how my deck turned out:
6xMountain
7xSwamp
3xIsland
Keldon Megaliths
Bogardan Lancer
Emberwilde Augur
Grapeshot
Flowstone Embrace
Ironclaw Buzzardiers
Flowstone Channeler
Henchfiend of Ukor
Fortune Thief
Gathan Raiders
Riddle of Lightning
Boldwyr Intimidator
Deathspore Thallid
Urborg Syphon-Mage
Deepcavern Imp
2xIchor Slick
Witch's Mist
Viscid Lemures
Mass of Ghouls
Death Rattle
Crookclaw Transmuter
Errant Ephemeron
Sol'kanar the Swamp King
Other interesting cards in my pool included: the Magus of the Disk, the Magus of the Vineyard, Tarmogoyf, Nix, Living End, Giant Oyster, and Auratog.
In round 1, I faced Greg, who started playing Magic in the early 1990's, quit for a few years, and started playing again just a few weeks ago. He's still a little rusty, so I managed to beat him easily.
Record: 1-0
In round 2, I played a dood named Fillipo, who utterly trounced me. One interesting situation was when he attacked with a 2/1. I tried to give it +1/-1 with my Flowstone Channeler, but he Flashed in a Crookclaw Transmuter in response and switched the 2/1's power & toughness. The question became, did the 2/1 become a 2/1 again or a 0/3? I personally thought it would get switched to 1/2, then be turned into a 2/1 by the Flowstone Channeler's +1/-1 ability. However, Fillipo seemed to believe (against his own interests), that the +1/-1 ability also got swicthed into a -1/+1, so that the creature would end up as a 0/3. So we called a judge, and it turns out that, due to the way effects are layered (kinda like how hair is layered). Apparently, power/toughness changing abilities are applied before power/toughness switching abilities, so the the 2/1 would get +1/-1 and become a 3/0 (but not when a player has priority) and then switch to 0/3. Apparently, this behavior is also observed in Magic Online. Since Fillipo saved me 2 damage with his rules lawyering, I thanked him for being an honest opponent. But I still lost anyway.
Record: 1-1
In round 3, I played against Jeff. I went into the match assuming that I would get trounced, and in game 1, I did. In game 2, however, Jeff was mana screwed (or maybe he was mana flooded, or maybe he just got bad draws, I don't remember), and I managed to win. In game 3, at first, things seemed to be in Jeff's favor. However, I soon realized that I had a Keldon Megaliths and a Witch's Mist in play. Now, all I needed to do was empty my hand. The critical point of the duel was when Jeff played Teferi. In response, I flashed in the last card in my hand (a creature). During my next upkeep, before I drew, I used the Keldon Megalith's Hellbent ability to ping Teferi. Then, I used Witch's Mist to finish Teferi off. From there, it was just downhill for Jeff, as I kept topdecking and playing out all the cards in my hand as quickly as possible, and killing one of Jeff's creatures per turn as I slowly dropped his life total to zero. To paraphrase a conversation between me and Jeff and some other people at Red Robin later that night
me: I got lucky, that's all. I was basically topdecking half the game.
Jeff: Maybe I'm missing something here, but don't you kinda
have to topdeck? Keldon Megaliths has Hellbent. In fact, I would have been better off if you weren't topdecking. I was hoping that I could somehow get you to hold 4 cards in your hand.
Record: 2-1
In round 4, I played against Robert, who got a quick win against me in game 1 because I was color-screwed. In game 2, a well-timed Fortune Thief negated his ability to beat me, and in game 3, I just overran him with my fatties.
Record: 3-1
In any case, Robert was looking for Auratogs to complete his deck, and since I was quite happy that I had just racked up my 3 wins (basically, I can make a deal with my opponent and split the winnings 7-6 regardless of who wins), that I happily gave him the Auratog for free. (It's worth less than $1, anyway.)
In round 5, I played against Marc. In the first game, he got the early beats on me and brought me down to 2 life. However, I gradually made a comeback by playing Sol'kanar, followed by a Mass of Ghouls and a Viscid Lemures, bringing me back to 4 life. After attacking with most of my creatures, I managed to wipe out most of his army and take a large chunk of life out of him. However, he had flashed in a Havenwood Wurm, which he managed to use to kill off one of my fatties. On his turn, he attacked with it, and I only had my Flowstone Channeler and my Deathspore Thallid untapped. I opted to block with just the Flowstone Channeler alone, which would bring me down to one life. However, he played Strength in Numbers, pumping his Wurm by +1/+1, which was just enough to kill me. It turns out that I should have double-blocked with both the Channeler and the Thallid, since all my remaining creatures would have done exactly enough to kill him next turn. Oops! Game 2 was pretty close, but on the turn just before Marc was going to kill me, I discovered that I was 3 damage too short to finish him off (and a few mana too short to play the last card in my hand, let alone use the Keldon Megaliths to ping his 3/1 shadow creature).
Record: 3-2
Fortunately, we had previous agreed to split the winnings 7-6, with the winner getting the 7. In my packs, I got a Nihilith, Summoner's Pact, Epochrasite, Cloud Key, Grove of the Burnwillows (the red-green anti-painland), and a Darksteel Garrison.
dood: Do you have any Delays?
me: Let me check. *cracks open a booster and discovers a Delay* Yep.
dood: I'll give you $2 for it.
$2 for an uncommon, not bad. Although Remand was an uncommon, and it went for $5. But then again, Remand is also a cantrip.
Anyways, that was fun, and I'm happy with my result.
On this day:
In 2006: I beat Kingdom Hearts 2.
In 2003:
- I win with Coalition Victory for the first time.
- "Dwayne, you tapped out. I play Vengeance on your Sliver Queen." I sac a token to Ashnod's Altar to get 2 mana for the Clot Sliver's ability to regenerate the Sliver Queen.
Friday, April 20, 2007--Today, I went to the last Time Spiral-Time Spiral-Planar Chaos draft ever, because tomorrow is the Future Sight Prerelease. Yay! New slivers!
After a first-pick Rift Bolt, I ended up in red. Then, later, I moved myself into green. In the end, I ended up with a deck with primarily green creatures and red burn. Here is the deck:
7xMountain
10xForest
Lightning Axe
Ironclaw Buzzardiers
2xRift Bolt
Orcish Cannonade
Flamecore Elemental
Shivan Meteor
Magus of the Arena
Dead & Gone
Uktabi Drake
Ashcoat Bear
Spinneret Sliver
Vitaspore Thallid
Evolution Charm
Utopia Vow
Thelon of Havenwood
Primal Forcemage
Thallid Germinator
Harmonize
Savage Thallid
Deadwood Treefolk
Havenwood Wurm
Assault & Battery
In the first round, I played Ian, who played a red-black deck with a splash of green. He won the first game when I was stuck with all Mountains and no Forests for maybe 6-7 turns. In the second game, I got an early Vitaspore Thallid supported by Thelon, so after the early beat down followed by a late game beatdown from other creatures, I won the game. During the game, after I had played a Flamecore Elemental but before I paid the echo cost, Ian played Torchling in desperation, tapping out all his mana to do so. I had a Rift Bolt ready to take out the Torchling, but I needed the mana. So I chose to not pay the echo cost, letting my Flamecore Elemental die so that I could take out the Torchling. In game 3, I managed to get out a Magus of the Arena on turn 6, followed by a Flamecore Elemental. With those two in play, I managed to smash my way through Ian's defenses for the win.
Record: 1-0
In the second round, I played against Jeff, who played a green-black deck with a splash of red. Although most of his creatures were small, they had good synergy with each other. In the first game, with a combination of the Shadow Guildmage and a Scryb Ranger, he managed to effectivly kill off my smaller creatures. Other cards (particularly, discarding madness cards to the Greenseeker) to kill off my larger creatures. He cleanly trounced me in the first game. The second game was more of the same, except he also managed to play a Phantom Wurm. Fortunately, I suicide-attacked into it with a 2/2, then played a Uktabi Drake, an Evolution Charm, and Grapeshot, to finish it off with 3 separate instances of 1 damage. I still lost anyway.
Record: 1-1
Since we only had 8 people, we were only playing 3 rounds. And since 3 people dropped, and since I ended up in 5th place, I got the bye. So I said bye bye, got some dinner, and went home.
On this day:
In 2006: I danced with Duckie.

In 2003: I pull off Infinite Slivers for the first time ever.
Wednesday, April 18, 2007--I had a long day at work today. Dood...
Tuesday, April 17, 2007--After work today, I played a Time Spiral-Time Spiral-Planar Chaos booster draft with the Microsoft Cafeteria 16/17 players. When I opened my first pack, I met a Jaya Ballard. So I decided to commit myself to red. Unfortunately, in taking the Jaya Ballard, I was forced to pass a Conflagrate, which means someone prolly thought red was in the clear. Oh well. During the second pack, I soaked up a lot of black kill cards and got passed a Kaervek, so I became committed to red-black.
Man, it's been a while since I drafted red-black. It feels good to have this power coursing through my veins.
Here's what my deck looked like:
8xMountain
8xSwamp
Molten Slagheap
Thick-Skinned Goblin
Stingscourger
Mogg War Marshal
Simian Spirit Guide
Flowstone Channeler
Jaya Ballard, Task Mage
Subterranean Shambler
Keldon Halberdier
Rough & Tumble
Conflagrate
Pit Keeper
Rathi Trapper
Strangling Soot
Assassinate
Sudden Death
Mana Skimmer
3xTendrils of Corruption
Cyclopean Giant
2xViscid Lemures
Kaervek the Merciless
Other interesting cards in my pool (which were totally not in my colors) included Fungus Sliver, Frenetic Sliver, and Tribal Flames.
First, I played against Ken, who also ran a red-black deck, except he also splashed black and blue. I managed to beat him twice in a row. One interesting play was that I cast (and this was a very inefficient use of the card) Tendrils of Corruption with one swamp on his Deathspore Thallid. In response, he inefficiently cast a card of his own and use Sudden Spoiling to save Thallid. Unfortunately for him, the next turn, I played the Subterranean Shambler, and killed both his Thallid
and his saproling.
Then, I played against Julian, who ran a white weenie deck with red support. I discovered that my deck's weakness is creatures with protection from black. I also discovered that Kaervek is badass. Like, really really badass. In the first game, I got Kaervek out pretty fast, and Julian just died. In the second game, I had a bit of a slower start, but I was able to get Kaervek out pretty quickly, too, and Julian died shortly after that, but not before he got me down to 2 life. Since we were still waiting on other people to play, we decided to play a few more games, and in those games, I just couldn't get any good draws and ended up losing the next two games. Heh. Oops.
Last, I played against Jon, who ahd a really cerebral mono-blue deck. In the first game, I managed to get out Jaya Ballard, and for the first time ever, her Pyroblast ability actually became useful. Unfortunately, he got a Reality Acid on her, and Jaya's Pyroblast ability is actually only half of a Pyroblast. He managed to win the first game.
The second game turned out to be a battle of wits, as I managed to kill off many of his creatures and hold of the rest, not taking a single point in damage. (In fact, thanks to a Tendrils of Corruption, I was up to 22 life.) After a while, I managed to play Kaervek while he had an Errant Ephemeron suspended. In the mean time, I threw every spell Jon played back at him in the form of damage to the head, all the while waiting for that 7 mana suspended creature to become played. Luckily for Jon, he got a Clockspinning and casted it (with buyback) on the Ephemeron, delaying it indefinitely. At the same time, he also put a Reality Acid on my Kaervek. Thanks to those two cards, he was able to delay the Ephemeron (and thus, the 7 damage) until Kaervek was completely dissolved by the Acid. Then, with Kaervek out of the way, he unmorphed a Brine Elemental (while I was tapped out, thus delaying me for a turn). While hitting me twice with the Brine Elemental (putting me down to 12), he played a Tidewalker with 9 islands, as well as a Fledgling Mawcor. At around the same time, I played Jaya Ballard and a Pit Keeper, bringing back Kaervek. In addition to a goblin token from a previously played Goblin War Marshal, that put me at 3 creatures. The turn after that, I played Kaervek, and then Jon pinged away one of my 1-toughness creatures and began smashing with his ginormous blue creatures. (Yeah, I know. It's like an oxymoron.) I chump-block the Tidewalker with my other 1-toughness creature and take 5, bringing me down to 7. At that point, I realized that Jaya had a
third ability, one that I had never until now considered: the end-of-the-world spell. So I promptly discard a card and deal 6 damage to all creatures and players. (Jon was at a mere 4 life.) So in response, Jon Clockspinnings his suspended Ancestral Visions, buys it back, and then Clockspinnings it again, causing it to go off. He draws three cards and finds a Voidmage Husher, which would have been great at countering Jaya's end-of-the-world spell, except then Kaervek would trigger and finish him off anyway.
Interestingly enough, Jon had made a play mistake earlier. The first turn after the Mawcor came into play, he forgot to ping off my other 1-toughness creature, so that when he attacked (after I had both Jaya and Kaervek in play and had 12 life), I would have been forced to block one of them to stay alive, thus causing one of my superior legends to die. It turns out it didn't matter, because when I played Kaervek, he was already at 4 life, so instead of playing Kaervek, I should have played the end-of-the-world spell there and then, and he wouldn't have enough spinning clocks to draw into that Voidmage Husher to save his life.
So now that each of us had a game win and a game loss, we moved on to game 3. We both had good starts, but he soon got two Errant Ephemerons in play in quick succession, and my only flyer was a Mana Skimmer. After getting a Tendrils of Corruption in my hand (with 3 swamps), I decided to attack with the Skimmer. Either I would get through for damage, or else it would kill itself against an Ephemeron, and then I'd finish the Ephemeron off with my Tendrils. Jon chose not to block. Then, he smashed me with the Ephemerons, bringing me from 18 down to 10. Then, he played Walk the Aeons and
bought it back, giving him both the extra turn
and the allowing him to keep Walk the Aeons. Since my flyer was still tapped, he swung in for 8 more damage with the Ephemerons, bringing me down to 2. Then, he played the Walk the Aeons
again, and finished me off. Wow. 3 turns in a row, thanks to Walk the Aeons. It was brutal.
Monday, April 16, 2007--Today, I went back to the gym with Feng. Now, I have a headache. Ow.
Sunday, April 15, 2007--More Phantom Brave. *PhBr*
Today, after training up my new Valkyrie, I cleared chapter 7. The enemy's levels have gotten dramatically higher, but I think between my new Valkyrie and a super-strong Marona, it wasn't too difficult.*PhBr*
On this day:
In 2003:
- Math 78 Evaluations: "This class lacks entertainment value." "Mr. Langlois is a cool guy. Give him a raise or something."
- "I failed to realize that 5 was also 10 divided by 2."
- I officially qualify for the USAMO! w00t!
Saturday, April 14, 2007--Today, I played more Phantom Brave. *PhBr*
I ended up fusing the strong weed onto the weak weed anyway, since I already had enough mana to learn all the skills and the weak weed was actually stronger than the strong weed now. *shrig* I also cleared chapter 6. Then, I noted that my Soldier was pathetically weak, so I created a new Valkyrie to replace him.*PhBr*
I'm gonna go do some more work on
SV:Fleets.
Friday, April 13, 2007--
Happy Friday the 13th!
Today, even though I wasn't feeling 100% (I was feeling about 50%), I was still feeling better than yesterday. And since at work, I'm just sitting in front of a computer all day, I figured I might as well go to work and sit in front of a computer all day.
It was a good call, too, because by mid-afternoon, I was feeling just fine. (I think the spicy pasta I had for lunch might have helped.)
Anyways, I'm gonna go make some more progress on
SV:Fleets, so long as I have momentum.
Thursday, April 12, 2007--Today, I felt a little sick, so I took the day off from work.
After recovering all morning and part of the afternoon, I got up and went to work some more on
SV:Fleets.
Wednesday, April 11, 2007--Apparently, in the excitement of finishing my leftover lasagna yesterday (don't misunderstand--it's good, but too much of a good thing is boring), I forgot to defrost the meat that I was planning on using to make soy-boiled pork today. D'oh!
On this day:
In 2003: I beat FF5.
Today, I resumed working on
SV:Fleets.
Tuesday, April 10, 2007--Today, I finished my leftover lasagna.
Monday, April 9, 2007--Apparently, there was a
Hayden Panettiere movie on TV.
On this day:
In 2004: Prof Shewchuk: Quick sort was invented by a man named Tony Hoare. Yes, that is an unfortunate last name, but what are you going to do about it?
Little Vivian is so sweet!
Sunday, April 8, 2007--Today, I played Phantom Brave. *PhBr*
I spent most of today levelling up my items to get them ready for Fusion. Sure, I could have just fused the strong one onto the weak one, but then I'd have to spend lots of mana gaining all my skills back.*PhBr*
On this day:
In 2004: Lily N and I are in the same room at Berkeley for about an hour, and we don't even notice.
Mmm... leftover lasagna...
Saturday, April 7, 2007--Today, I made lasagna. It was a little wrinked, because I didn't realize how much the lasagna would expand, so I guess it over expanded and, since it ran out of room to expand, curled on itself. Despite it's wrinkled appearance, it still tasted good, though. Unfortunately, I made way too much. It's gonna last me at least another 3 meals. D'oh!
Next time, I'll know to quarter the ingredients and get a smaller baking tray. How do you quarter 2 eggs, though?
Duckie: Take 2 eggs, break them, beat them, take a quarter for your lasagna, and make some scramble eggs with the rest.
Duckie: Although I guess you could just take 1 egg and halve it. But that would be some pretty sad scrambled eggs.
me: Well, there are only so many ways to cook half an egg.
On this day:
In 2003: Connie Chu, apparently.
Also, I booked my flight back to San Jose for the first week of May.
Friday, April 6, 2007--Instead of going to Sakura-Con, I went to play at the MTG booster draft at Uncle's Games in Crossroads instead.
Anyways, because my first pack didn't really have solid black kill or red burn, I went with a favorite choice: I grabbed a white weenie. (In this case, my first pick was a Quilled Sliver.) As the picks went on, I grabbed more and more white cards. I was planning on eventually taking up a second color, but every time I considered another color, I saw more good white cards. So eventually, I managed to draft a mono-white white weenie deck.
It turns out that no one at my table was drafting white, which allowed me to soak up a lot of the good white cards. It's weird, though, because I kept feeling like each pack had only one or two good white picks.
Anyways, here's how my deck turned out:
17xPlains
Sidewinder Sliver
Gaze of Justice
2xQuilled Sliver
Amrou Scout
Whitemane Lion
Benalish Cavalry
Dawn Charm
Temporal Isolation
3xPoultice Sliver
Outrider en-Kor
Amrou Seekers
2xCloudchaser Kestrel
Aven Riftwatcher
Malach of the Dawn
3xCelestial Crusader
Stormfront Riders
Saltblast
In round 1, I got the bye, which meant I'd be playing against Gabe (the tournament organizer at Uncle's). Gabe drafted a 3-color sliver deck. In game 1, I just pretty much overran him with my weenies. In game 2, I didn't get to such a great start, and I actually had to hold back my Quilled Sliver in order to keep him from pinging away all my attackers. Unfortunately, I had played out my Poultice Sliver, which made it hard for me to kill
his slivers. All the while, his (relatively) fat Vampiric Sliver and Synchronous Sliver were beating down on me. Eventually, I managed to draw into my removal to get rid of his fat slivers, and eventually, my larger creatures over powered his 1/1 Mindlash and Screeching Slivers.
Record: 1-0
In round 2, I played against Jeff H (?) (the same Jeff who
played Dragonstorm against me). He ran a 3-color deck including red, blue, and... I forget. Probably green. Anyways, our first game was a battle of wits, his army versus my air force. Eventually, using some crazy combination of bouncing my Aven Riftwatcher with my Whitemane Lion and my Stormfront Riders repeatedly to get loads of 1/1 soldier tokens, I was able to keep my air force alive long enough to wear him out for the game 1 win. In game 2, I was off to a pretty good start. However, Jeff brought out the Giant Oyster, which gradually killed off all my creatures, and I was never able to recover. In game 3, I had a really good draw, involving a turn 3 Cloudchaser Kestrel, a turn 4 Celestial Crusader, and a turn 5
another Celestial Crusader. Jeff, on the other hand, had bad draws and only managed to block with a Gossamer Phantasm, which was quickly crushed when my fliers became huge. He quickly conceded the game.
Record: 2-0
In round 3, I played against the other Jeff, Jeff M (?). He piloted a pretty potent green-blue deck. Unfortunately, in game 1, I was mana flooded, and in game 2, I was mana screwed. We decided to play a third game just for fun, and even with my deck "just working", he still managed to overpower me with his 8/8 Spectral Force.
Record: 2-1
In round 4, I played against Ian R (not the Ian that I hang out with at Brian at Denny's after FNM), who was piloting a red-green deck with a splash of black. His deck was slower, but being green-based, it was bigger. Running Giant Dustwasps, Durkwood Baloths, and even Jedit Ojanen of Efrava. In game 1, however, I was able to outrush him and cripple him before most of his army could come online, then finish him off. In game 2, however, he was able to get his fatties out before I could do much damage to him, and as a result, he won. In game 3, Ian suspened a Giant Dustwasp on turn 2, then a second Dustwasp and a Baloth on turn 3. However, on turn 4, I managed to play a Malach of the Dawn, followed on turn 5 by a Celestial Crusader. However, I was only able to get off 1 hit with my Malach, as on turn 6, I decided to hold him back to get ready to block the first Dustwasp. Over the next few turns, his creatures arrived, and we started trading hits. At one point, Ian Strangling Soot'ed my Crusader. Fortunately, I had the Whitemane Lion prepared, saving the Crusader and replaying him. Unfortunately, the next turn, Ian flashed the Strangling Soot back to get rid of my Crusader for good. Later, I Saltblasted one of his Dustwasps, but Ian brought it back with an Evolution Charm. Eventually, I get a Cloudchaser Kestrel and a Sidewinder Sliver to support my Malach and my Lion. Fortunately, (after only taking 1 hit from the Baloth, bringing me down to 9), I used Gaze of Justice to remove his Baloth, holding back my Malach to block his Dustwasps. As predicted (mainly because it was the correct play), Ian swung with his Dustwasps. I blocked one of them, and the other brought me down to 6. I then flashed Gaze of Justice back to remove one of his Dustwasps, again leaving my Malach back to block. Knowing that he can't possibly get through for damage, Ian held his Dustwasp back. The next turn, I attacked with my Whitemane Lion, Cloudchaser Kestrel, and Malach of the Dawn. For some reason, Ian chose not to block (possibly fearing a trick, and possibly not realizing that if I actually had the Celestial Crusader, it would have been lethal--I did have the Dawn Charm, which is why I didn't fear attacking my 2/2s into his 3/3). Ian took the 6 damage, bringing him down to 2 life to my 6. Unfortunately, at that precise moment, I realized that if Ian had the Brute Force, I just left myself open. (I should have held back the Malach as a blocker.) Ian topdecked a Chromatic Star and then popped it for mana and a card. Smiling, he swung with the Dustwasp. He then played his one card . . . it was Orcish Cannonade. He was one damage short of killing me, but did plenty of damage to commit ritual suicide.
Record: 3-1
Somehow, despite losing to Jeff M (who lost to the day's champion), I managed to rank higher than him, getting 2nd place overall, winning 4 boosters. Interesting cards in those boosters included Serra Sphinx, Aeon Chronicler, Blood Knight, Imp's Mischief, Cautery Sliver, Calciderm, Fungal Behemoth, Shivan Wumpus, and Benalish Commander.
(Later, we had late nite dinner at Denny's.)
On this day:
In 2004:
- Three mudterms in a row.
- I run into Daisy... literally.
Also, Duckie called me and we talked for 5 minutes. (Which is pretty long for a phone call for me.) Isn't she so sweet?
Thursday, April 5, 2007--
Happy Birthday Duckie!
Wednesday, April 4, 2007--
me: *sends Winnifer a picture of
Flonne*
Winnifer: What is she wearing?
me: Not pants, apparently.
Tuesday, April 3, 2007--Today,
Alien vs Predator was on TV. Except I already saw it when it came out
on my 19th birthday. It still entertained me while I was cooking and eating dinner, nonetheless.
Monday, April 2, 2007--Today, I went to the gym with Feng. There were some amusing conversations, but I forgot them all already. Oh well. They prolly weren't that amusing.
On this day:
In 2004: I play my first booster draft at Games of Berkeley.
me: Hmm... apparently, a Dakota Fanning movie and WWF are on TV right now. Which should I watch?
Abhi: WWF.
me: Let me rephrase that question... should I watch an underage white girl or a bunch of big, buff guys fighting for who gets to be on top.
Abhi: Well, when you put it like that...
Yeah, so I saw parts of
Man on Fire. Unfortunately, because of an urgent bathroom break, I missed the ending. Also, Dakota Fanning doesn't really appear much in the one hour I saw of
Man on Fire. It's mostly Denzel Washington on a killing spree.
Sunday, April 1, 2007--So you know Epic Games, right? You know, the guys who made
Unreal and
Gears of War? Yeah, apparently, they used to be called Epic MegaGames. ('Cause you know, Epic RegularGames wasn't enough.) And apparently, they used to make this old DOS fighting game called One Must Fall 2097. So, out of curiosity, I decided to download it, and wow, this game is actually pretty good. No, better than that. I'm addicted to it already. If you like fighting games or giant robots, you should totally try this game. Just send me an IM or an e-mail or something, and I'll tell you all about it.
The storyline is pretty interesting (well, as interesting as it gets for a
fighting game). So interesting that I'm inspired to write a short story series based on the world and the characters of One Must Fall. Thus, I announce the new series I will be writing,
One Must Fall: Flesh and Steel. Since I'm already busy writing
The Legend of the Dark Fiends and
The Hyperman Chronicles, I'll undoubtedly have to cancel one of them to make room on my schedule. Since
Dark Fiends has already been posted, but
Hyperman hasn't, I'm gonna cancel
Hyperman. Sorry superhero fans. You're welcome sci-fi mecha fans.
Speaking of works of fiction inspiried by other people's games, I've decided that the time is right to announce that I'm making a Strategy RPG spin-off of
Solar Vengeance, called
Solar Vengeance: Fleets. Here's a really really really early screenshot:

On this day:
In 2006: I name a successor to be the next me at Berkeley, and the next me is Lei.
In 2005: Karen agrees to take EE/BioE 125 with me.
In 2004:
- A possible reference to Tiffany Shiao, although no names were mentioned.
- I take Kim fencing.
In 2003: "We're kicking butt, 2 to 2!"
My most favoritest girl in the whole wide world is ViVian.
