February 2009

Saturday, February 28, 2009--I'd been playing Disgaea 3, power-leveling my guys to be able to do the post-game content. Now, Disgaea 3 power-leveling is much more streamlined and much faster than in any previous NIS game, and my characters are stronger than they've ever been before, but even I was starting to get bored of it now. (Okay, it's no surprise that I was getting bored of power-leveling, because I have a short attention span and hate grind.)

But I'd promised myself that I'd finish Valkyria Chronicles just to see what the big deal was, so I continued playing Valkyria Chronicles today.

On this day:
In 2003: The first official mention of my Slivers...

Thursday, February 26, 2009--Happy Birthday Mishra!

Really, the nut bread was for him.
Wednesday, February 25, 2009--
On this day:
In 2008: I receive my first ever text message. (From Princess.)
In 2003: My first Magic the Gathering booster. It was a Legions booster. It instilled in my my love of Slivers.

Tuesday, February 17, 2009--It's a little known secret that I'm a fan of fighting games. Today, on impulse, I decided to buy Street Fighter 4. And even though it's the release date, I had no trouble finding the game, even at GameStop, which is reputed to not have as much in stock as other stores.

As a side note, my local GameStop tends to be well-stocked on the newest games. I've never had an occasion where GameStop did not have the game but other stores had plenty of copies.

But anyway, back to Street Fighter 4. Long story short, it plays exactly like Street Fighter 2 Super Turbo Ultimate Edition or whatever it's called, except with 3d graphics and "Ultra Moves". Which isn't a terrible thing, because I liked Street Fighter 2. And as per usual, I picked Vega as my character, because flying through the air killing shit is teh awesome-sauce. And apparently it's a pretty good strategy at the beginner level.

Unfortunately, Vega has apparently since been nerfed since Street Fighter 2 and is now bottom tier. But since when have tiers stopped me from playing characters I liked? (Okay, since Suikoden decided to make all the cute girls useless in combat.)

Anyway, long story short, if you like Street Fighter 2, I whole-heatedly recommend Street Fighter 4, mainly because it's the exact same game.

Although I think making every character--even the girls--super buff is a little excessive.

(Oh wait, it's called Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix.)
Saturday, February 14, 2009--I decided that I should attempt to make the nut bread that Abhi was such a big fan of back at Berkeley. Unfortunately, I'd never tasted that nut bread before, nor had I ever seen, heard, smelled, or touched it, so I was flying blind (and deaf and numb and... whatever adjectives are used for can't smell and can't feel). But I thought I'd give it a shot anyway.

I downloaded a recipe from teh intarwebs and used the same methods as I used when baking cookies, and ended up with something edible, tasty, but not something I would be baking again. (That is, a failure that I don't feel compelled to improve upon.)

Note to self: Bake cookies next time.

Also, Happy Valentine's Day?

In 2007: I beat Disgaea with my good playthrough. (That is, with the powerful Flonne and the well-built army.
In 2005: I beat Diablo 2 Act 5 for the first time ever.

Monday, February 2, 2009--Happy Hedgehog Day!

Today was the premiere of Heroes Volume 4 (second half of Season 3). It was a rather slow and boring episode. I daresay Volume 3 had a much better opener. (Actually, it's pretty much undeniable that Volume 3 had a kickass awesome opener, but shortly after that opener, it went downhill really really fast.)

That said, I may be a little biased, given that I just saw a kickass awesome episode of Battlestar last Friday.
Sunday, February 1, 2009--

In 2003: Little Vivian makes her first appearance in my bloop. Also, The Incident.
