December 2008

Wednesday, December 31, 2008--Today was a New Years Eve party at my place. I originally wanted to make a roast beef (divine!) for New Years Eve, but my parents oven is busted, and roasting a roast beef in an oven that can't control its own temperature is a bad idea. So instead, I made an onion dip. Now, I have high standards for my own cooking, so I merely declared it as "passable", but the party guests (Little Vivian included) couldn't stop eating it. Success? (I couldn't stop eating it either, so I guess the dip, as it turns out, was pretty good.)

Guests included: Justin, Kell Kell and parents, Little Vivian and her dad, Connie, Jeffrey, their parents, and Jasmine's parents but not Jasmine.

We played Smash, then GH:WT, then Karaoke (which the girls got really really into, getting up and dancing and everything; also Justin and I rickrolled everyone). Pics on Facebook.

Unfortunately, Connie and Vivian were quite unfriendly today. Why is Kellie the only fun one?
Tuesday, December 30, 2008--Today, I went to In-N-Out to grab a burger and hung out with Alex Jukl and caught up.

Then, later, I went with Justin to get some koobideh and then played Smash Bros Brawl.

It was a lot more fun to actually do than it was to write this bloop post. Go figure.
Monday, December 29, 2008--Today, I went with Kell Kell to see Bolt. We were originally supposed to go with Connie and Vivian as well, but both of them noobed out and couldn't make it. (Especially Connie.)

The movie itself was actually pretty good. (And no, I'm not just saying that because Miley Cyrus is in it.) It was predictable, but still well done.
Sunday, December 28, 2008--
On this day:
In 2002: I beat FFX.

Saturday, December 27, 2008--Today, Justin and I decided to go to a nightclub so I could develop and practice my social skills. We were too lazy to drive all the way down to San Francisco to go to one of the "good" nightclubs, though. So we tried to find one in San Jose. First, we went to a sports bar called Britannia Arms. It sucked. It was mostly men and fat chicks.

Then, we went to a place I had found on Yelp called Cardiff Lounge. It was all right. I managed to open a set of cougars, then Justin got into the set, and while I was chatting with one cougar, Justin managed to get the other cougar to introduce him to an adjacent set of two younger girls. It was amusing, but we decided to bail since we weren't prepared to stay late.
Friday, December 26, 2008--Today, I had lunch with Justin at Red Robin. I had the Royal Red Robin and garlic fries with Ranch dressing. (I may or may not be allergic to something I ate. At the end of the meal, I had itchy, dry lips.)

On this day:
In 2003: The birth of my Red-Green Sliver Beatdown deck.

Then, I went to dinner with Kell Kell's family, Conifer Yeeway Ho's family, and Little Vivian's family. Then, we went to Kell Kell's place afterwards to hang out. For some reason, Connie (who's usually friendly) was rather withdrawn and unfriendly.

Pics on Facebook.
Thursday, December 25, 2008--Merry Xmas!

I celebrated Xmas by flying down to California. It's funny, it was snowing in Redmond, so I called the taxi 4 hours before the flight. They said it would take an hour for the taxi to arrive, but the taxi came in a mere 20 minutes. And I got to the airport in just half an hour. And I got through security in another half an hour. So here I am at the gate 2.5 hours early because I thought the snow would cause trouble.

Well, at least I didn't miss my flight. (Also, it wasn't cancelled or delayed.)

Also, I gave a nice fat 25% tip to the taxi driver for driving me through the snow on Xmas day.
Sunday, December 21, 2008--I made French Toast this morning, Alton Brown style. This was only possible because last night, I drove to Safeway ('cause I wasn't snow-locked anymore) and got the ingredients. I may have used too high heat and burnt it a little, but otherwise, it was still good. It was as good as, if not better than, the stuff you get at diners.

In any case, that night, I decided to repeat what I did yesterday, except it had snowed last night, so there was a fresh layer of powder. While it didn't change much when driving on the streets, there were some parts of concrete that were covered in slush. And driving on slush is not fun. Note to self: either drive when it first starts snowing so it's mostly concrete and a thin layer of snow, or drive after the plow has scraped off the snow.
Saturday, December 20, 2008--I decided not to be snowlocked anymore. Since the plows had scraped most of the snow off the streets, they were drivable (if you were careful). The hardest part was escaping the parking lot, because the snow there hadn't been plowed. But after applying basic physics (that is, momentum), I managed to escape the parking lot.

On this day:
In 2005: I beat FF4 Hardtype.

Thursday, December 18, 2008--Today was the first real snow of the winter. This time, the snow fell and it stuck. It's quite impressive, actually. 8 inches in Redmond. We didn't have snow like this last year.

As per tradition, I took pics of the first snow of the winter. Pics are on Facebook.

On this day:
In 2005: I implement the Journal full-text search feature and the Overheards.

Sunday, December 14, 2008--
On this day:
In 2006: The Hanukkah Eve Wind Storm

Saturday, December 13, 2008--Today was technically the first snow of the winter. I mean, snowflakes were falling out of the sky. But the snow didn't stick, so I don't count it.
Friday, December 12, 2008--
On this day:
In 2005: "Dwayne, it's morning. Why isn't your cell phone on? Call me back!"

Tuesday, December 9, 2008--gas-watch: $1.79/gal
Monday, December 8, 2008--Happy 18th Birthday, Little Vivian!
Saturday, December 6, 2008--This little piggy had roast beef.

(So today, I decided to make a roast beef. It's kind of like prime rib, except it's one grade down. Regardless, it was absolutely divine.)

On this day:
In 2004: The lost and found watch incident. (Incidentally, I finally changed the watch strap... as of Jan 11, 2006.)

Friday, December 5, 2008--gas-watch: $1.83/gal

On this day:
In 2003: I beat FF1.

Thursday, December 4, 2008--
On this day:
In 2003: The birth of SiniticImpaler, the Diablo 2 Spear Barb.
In 2002: "Good news is, I found the rest of the music. Bad news is, there are 20 more pages."

Tuesday, December 2, 2008--gas-watch: $1.89/gal

On this day:
In 2005: Princess calls me. No one ever calls me!

Monday, December 1, 2008--
On this day:
In 2007: I do the stupidest, craziest, most impulsive thing I've ever done... I drive through on the highway to JKern's place for the party. (And brought baked chicken drumsticks.)
